To the Editor: In another area of the Gazette, an advertisement appears soliciting applica-tions for membership on a newly formed Victoria Parks and Recreation Committee. As the Victoria City Council's liaison to Parks and Recreation, I want to encour-age people who have a variety of experi-ences and interests to apply for member-ship on the five-member committee. The committee will have a fantastic opportunity to work with our community and council in an advisory role to help chart the future direction of our city's parks and recreation activities and priori-ties. Meetings will be held once a month, probably on the first Thursday of each month, beginning at 7 p.m. Materials for membership on the Parks and Recreation Committee need to be submitted by Friday, March 28th. As your new councilmember, I really look forward to working with everyone to continue strong recreation and education programs in our community. Feel free to call me directly if you have questions. Thank you. Sincrely, Mary L. Hershberger Thun Victoria City Councilmember Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: I messed up last month. Sorry I didn't get you an ad. My excitement was that Stan and I were attending a business meeting in St. Charles, Illinois. This was an awards dinner meeting and factory tour for Echo, Inc. And since we were within 300 miles of Father Elstan, we decided to take advantage and visit him. First we went to Sherman to the retirement center, where we met several friars who were friends with Father. Then a Sister took us to the infirmary at the convent. Father looked good but thin. Father's sense of humor is intact. We had a good visit. He is a very special "man of God." The friars decided to join us for a visit. It was fun. Father said to greet everyone for him. He still gets his mail at Our Lady of the Angels Friary, 100 Stardust Drive, Sherman, Illinois 62684. And now I do have an ad ready for you and the March Gazette. Thanks. To the Editor: The Victoria Fire Department held its 16th annual Fishing Contest on Sunday, February 9th. Needless to say, it was again a great success. We want to take this opportunity to thank all the residents who returned their tickets and donations. We also want to thank all the businesses and suppliers in and around Victoria that contributed to this contest, and everyone else who helped make it a success. As with every success, the fishing contest requires participation from many different organizations, businesses, and residents. We received it from all of you, and we thank you. We also would like to thank Carver and Chanhassen Fire Departments for helping us as well. And we thank chair-person Aaron Jurek and his committee members and staff for doing a great job. Preparation for next year's contest has already begun. Tom Walsh Victoria Fire Department Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Your layout of Victoria on Ice was the best. Thank you for making the ad look so spectacular. I am so excited for the Victoria residents to have the oppor-tunity to see such great talent in our hometown. The Victoria Lions and the Victoria House were awesome to help support the event with food, beer, and wine. Mary Meuwissen Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Some conservatives are tight, Some liberals are loose, Some of both are alright, Some deserve a noose. But relax and don't fear -- The Irish are here! Jim Larkin Placida, Florida
