Mike and Kate

by Jesse Coghill
Jordan, Minnesota

Mike and Kate went lookin' for a house,
A place where they could just kick back.
Ryan the realtor said he had one
Down the hill by the railroad track.

They inspected the house and liked it;
The next mornin' they signed the lease.
"So maybe now," Mike said to his Kate,
"We'll finally be findin' some peace."

After a month passed Ryan came by
And said, "It's time to pay the rent."
Kate told him, "Mike's not home right now.
I couldn't tell you where he went."

"Does the house please you?" he asked Kate.
"That it does," she politely said,
"But it shakes so bad when trains goes by,
It fairly knocks us out of bed."

"I don't believe that for a minute.
You're plum wrong," the realtor said.
Kate replied, "Well, I can prove it.
Lay down beside me on the bed."

When Mike walked in, his words were clear:
"I'm getting' me gun to blow out your brain."
Ryan shouted, "Would you believe me
If I said we're waitin' for a train
?"
