Fish was the most prominent entree for the various lunches and dinners on our tour through Portugal, Spain, and southern France. I was thinking it was probably saltwater fish because of the Atlantic or the Mediterranean, but it could also have been freshwater fish because of the Tagus River or the River Gave. Except for one meal of pink salmon, the fish was white, moist, and good tasting, but the breading was sorta mushy. Their steak is thin and gristly. Their chickens are little and sweet. Their pureed soups have the consistency of gravy and come in solid colors like pea green or pumpkin orange. My favorite European food is always available at breakfast - crusty hard rolls with a variety of cold cuts and cheeses. I make two, one to eat immediately and one for my purse. My second favorite food on this trip was the pizza we ordered at an Italiano restaurant in Lourdes. It had thick and chewy cheese with thin and crispy crust. My least favorite food was served on the airplane. I think airlines work too hard trying to be what they are not. Don't they know why McDonald's has sold over 99 billion hamburgers? Don't they know why KFC has sold over 99 billion chickens? Don't they know why Subway has sold over 99 billion sandwiches? My goodness, how I've digressed. Way too much fishing line out there! The fishhook was hidden last month on page 8 in the MVT Excavating ad, "on the backhoe," as Conner Dammann of Victoria writes - I mean, prints. Conner had his named pulled from the minnow bucket to win the $10 drawing. Congra-tulations, big boy! I think your mother is Dawn Schmieg. There's another fishhook hidden in this issue of the Gazette. If you find it and care to enter this monthly drawing, drop a line to P.O. Box 387 here at Vic-toria, MN 55386 telling of its location and sinker in the mail. If your fishing line is too long, you may never get around to writing me, so reel it in a bit.
