"Victoria Moments" Continued.

Cadet Girl Scout Troop 565 accepted a generous donation from KleinBank of Victoria's President Al Liestman.  The donation will go towards the troop's Silver Project Refurbishment of Chaska Middle School West.  Those members in the photo are (l-r) Kara Olson, Cin Pan, and Tia Bont of Victoria.
Troop 565 hopes to put the KleinBank donation towards the replacement of benches in the front where parents pick up students and the public enters the school.  The old wood bench tops would be replaced with extremely durable recycled plastic with dedicated brass plaques, but a $175 donation apiece for each of the six benches is needed to complete that job.
CMSW Student Services has taken on the task in this year of the 100th anniversary of the first Chaska High School Graduate and will continue through the summer.  Anyone with Hawk Spirit can call CMSW at 952-556-7400 to find out how.
The troop, which has eleven members from Chanhassen, Chaska, and Victoria, will be planting and landscaping across the back of the school, putting in benches and a brick garden, and painting two murals in the cafeteria on Saturday, June 3rd, to earn the highest honor attainable as a Cadet Scout, the Silver.  Victoria Scouts
Olson, Pan, and Bont also obtained the Bronze Award as Junior Scouts.

School Bus Roadeo.  Nikie Ehlen of Victoria is a big time school bus "Roadeo" competitor, and this year she designed some fancy cowboy outfits for her team of school bus drivers.  Nikie took third place overall at the recent May 20th event.  First Student's Mounds View terminal is located in Arden Hills.  Cowgirl school bus drivers on the Tonka Bay team (l-r):  Suzanne Perry, Connie Isler, Cynthia Makin, Nikie Ehlen of Victoria, and Lynn Buckley.  The Roadeo is an event where school bus drivers and assistants can show off their skills and safety, earn trophies and cash prizes.  Drivers must navigate around cones with minimal clearance, display mirror mastery at the wheel, and bring the wide girth of the 40-foot long buses through a series of flags with minimal clearance.

Baseball and Blooming.  The seasons of baseball and flower gardening are upon us.  Zach and Elise, my two oldest kids, wrote these poems this spring about their favorite pastimes.  Baseball in Victoria is as close to the heart as you can get, as many original residents of our town have played and loved the game since they were young.
Zach is a junior this year and a pitcher for the Southwest Stars and Southwest Christian High School in Chaska.  He was inspired one night recently to write a poem about his experiences of the season.  His love of baseball never wanes throughout the year, and he can't wait for the new season to begin every March.
Elise loves flowers and springtime, and her poem captures her love for the beauty of the garden and the joy that flowers bring.  Poems like these have a way of taking you back to a time that you remember fondly, if even for a moment.
I hope you all enjoy the simple joys of baseball and blooming flowers this summer.
