This summer's first Concert in the Park in Victoria was held on Wednesday, June 13th, under a warm sun and cool breeze. Featured music from the Swing and Big Band era was provided by Diane Martinson and the Jazz Quintet. The dance tunes were, at this occasion, easy and enjoyable listening music. Bob and the Beachcombers were scheduled for the next Concert in the Park on Wednesday, June 20th, but dark skies and heavy hail and thunderstorm warn-ings for Carver County cancelled the show. The weather was so bad that the concert didn't even move indoors; as advertised, since weather forecasters were telling people to stay home, in the basement, and in other protected areas.f Upcoming concerts are ready to go, however, at 6:30 p.m. on upcoming Wednesday evenings - June 27th, July 11th, and July 18th - at Lions park. The concerts are free and concessions are available.
Also photographed at the Concert in the Park: Dave and Mayor Mary Thun of Victoria and also Sophia. You can tell which two only have eyes for each other. Tom and Tiny Walsh of Victoria. 1st Place Champions. The Chaska 12AAA Metro Traveling Baseball Team took 1st place in the Big Lake PeeWee Reese Baseball Tournament in June. Chaska beat Big Lake-Halverson, Cambridge-Isanti, and St. Francis to win in pool play. Strong defense, no errors, smart base running, and good coaching helped Chaska to beat Becker 2-0 in the championship game and bring home the 1st place trophy. A Corker. I took this picture last night with my flash. I zoomed out to 300 and captured this baby barred owl perched on the edge of his tree-hole den. It's certainly waiting for Mom to bring a meal. The corker is, this nest is 15 feet off the ground and less than 10 feet from my neighbors' deck facing Pierson Lake. We see and hear them a lot. Kurt Zuppke Victoria Lion, Minnesota
Happy 90th Birthday, Ethel Ausink. I had no idea you were near that elegant age! Thank you for writing a column for the Gazette each month. I appreciate your time and effort in presenting viewpoints that are not found in your average daily or weekly newspaper. ~Sue
