Award Winning Program. The Carver County Elected Officials Leadership Program was one of five county projects recognized for exhibiting excellence and innovation with the Association of Minnesota Counties' 2004 County Achievement Awards. The award was presented at the Association's annual conference December 6th in St. Cloud. The Elected Officials Leadership program, developed in 2001, is designed to incorporate key countywide policy issues into a leadership development program. This program has become a forum for networking and support, while building leadership skills and learning more about important local issues. It helps local leaders improve communications, understanding, and trust that leads to valuable dialogue on key issues facing Carver County. Ecumenical Choir. Enclosed are some pictures I took at the annual Community Thanksgiving Service in Victoria this past November, from the balcony at Lake Auburn Moravian Church. As you can see, the combined choirs took up half the church! Harriet gave me an advance Christmas present of a digital camera and a printer dock so I am now happily a part of the 21st Century. The Chaska Squirt B Gold Hockey Team is off to a strong early season start with a 3-2 win over Jefferson White in their first district competition. Matched against Eden Prairie Black in their next game, Chaska bounced back playing inspired hockey. In a back and forth nail biter, Chaska Squirt B Gold received rock solid goal-tending from Kevin Cole who turned away 23 shots in earning a 4-4 tie. Chaska received first period goals from Daniel Olson and Drew Nornes, with assists from Jenna Wormuth and Cameron Heaney. Ben Bratrud from Tim Fellner was all the Chaska scoring in the second. The fourth and final goal was scored unassisted on the power play by Megan Kelly. Seeing action in the Hopkins Thanksgiving Holiday Tournament, Chaska Squirt B Gold finished 1-1-1 receiving strong team defense, notably from Daniel Hackett but losing to the eventual Tournament Champions 4-3 on a last second goal. A Letter Written in 1883. The Rev. Herman Gerdsen is buried here at our Lake Auburn Moravian Cemetery in Victoria. He was born in 1857 and died in 1929. He never served at Lake Auburn, but the Gerdsen home stood near where the entrance to the Carver Park Campground is now. The farm buildings stood just across County Road 11. The Rev. Gerdsen's sister, Mary Gerdsen, later married Bishop Clement Hoyler here at Lake Auburn Moravian Church, but then it was called Laketown Moravian Church. Maybe you'd be interested in reading a letter that the Rev. Gerdsen wrote in 1883 to his sister, Miss Mary Gerdsen, who lived in Chaska at the time. Ron Holtmeier, Victoria, Minnesota

Santa Claus visited the Victoria Field House on Saturday, December 18th, 2004, and skated with Taylor Gaskin and Nate Gaskin. Thanks, Santa, for visiting us this Christmas season. Tammy Abrahamson, Victoria Parks and Rec Director, Victoria , MN
Christmas shoppers at Eden Prairie Center this holiday season found Mike Lindell, former owner of Schmitty's Tavern in Victoria, promoting and selling a new product he designed, invented, patented - a pillow that fluffs and feels like a feather pillow. It's called My Pillow. Good luck, Mike, in your new endeavor and congratulations on six months without any booze. ~Editor Sue
