Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:
A car company can move its factories to Mexico and claim it's a free market.  A major bank can incorporate in Bermuda to avoid taxes and claim it's a free market.  But heaven help those who dare to buy their prescription drugs from a Canadian pharmacy.  That's just so un-American.

To the Editor:
It came to my attention that the Postal Service is planning to issue a commemor-ative stamp honoring the black American singer and musician Paul Robeson.  I sent the following comment to the "contact us" destination at the Postal Service's web site.
"It was just brought to my attention that the Postal Service is going to issue a commemorative stamp honoring Paul Robeson.  Robeson was a faithful follow-er of Joseph Stalin.  He renounced the United States and went to live in Moscow during the most horrific period of the terror that was the Soviet Union.
"Robeson served as a spokesman who never deviated from the party line and who attempted to lend an air of legitimacy to an evil regime that killed millions and enslaved millions more.  What a hypocri-tical thing to do!  The red-white-and-blue U.S. Postal Service is honoring Stalin's lap dog."
I sent the same note to a Russian engineer who is a friend and fellow Exxon employee.  Lev was born in Moscow in 1937 and emigrated in 1979 when the Kremlin let some of their Jewish citizens out.  With respect to Paul Robeson, Lev remembers that Robeson's singing was broadcast over the Soviet State radio.  He sang patriotic songs and Communist Party songs in Russian.
Do you think that those of us of German descent have a chance of getting a stamp for Axis Sally?

To the Editor:
Hi, Sue.  My wife and I are going to Alaska this summer.  We found your trip online.  Did you take a tour of some kind?  Our plans are to spend seven days inland and cruise back to Vancouver.  We are trying to decide what to see.  At this point, Denali and Kenai are planned.  Any do's and don'ts or helpful hints?  Thanks.

To the Editor:
Hello, Sue.  I looked through the recent December, 2003, issue of the Victoria Gazette and did not see the article I submitted about Representative Paul Kohls visiting Ridgeview Medical Center to help him as he drafts health care legislation for the 2004 session.  I may have missed it.  Do you plan on running the article?  I realize there was an issue with the resolution quality of the photo, but several other area papers ran the story minus the photo ... and others decided to use the photo.  Please advise when you have a moment.

Thanks for all the news from your well done Victoria paper.  It gives a lot of news with each issue.  Thank you for printing my letters all these years.  God's best blessings for you and all your loved ones.  A very blessed Christmas and very joyful and happy New Year.

To the Editor:
Enclosed is a check for another year of your great interesting paper for us and for my Aunt Armella Schroeder who lives at Talheim Apartments.  We certainly do enjoy the Gazette.  Also, would it be possible to send it to Arizona?  Thank you very much.  Happy Holidays to your and your family.

To the Editor:
The Victoria Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for our annual spring Home and Garden Business Expo.  We had about 75 vendors last at the Victoria Field House.  It was a very successful event.  A lot of new contacts and friendships were made.
Jeff Wood has agreed to chair the Expo Committee again this year, but he can't do it alone.  We are looking for four to five volunteers to help with advertising, vendor relations, event setup and coordin-ation, and someone to help coordinate and plan the Chamber booth and volunteers.
We look forward once again to bring-ing this Expo to the community.
