A Quilter for All Seasons.  Betty Ann Claeys, mother of the editor, has been making fancy quilts for many years.  Dad used his new digital camera to take a picture of Mom and her latest creation that adorns a living room wall in their beautiful Texas home.  Thanks for the e-mail, folks.  Happy New Year.

Happy 40th!  Mel and Sharon Hazelwood of Victoria recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a quiet dinner.  They were married on December 29th, 1962, in Excelsior, Minnesota.  They will continue their celebration in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, later this month.  They have two children and two grandchildren.  Congratulations and love from your family.

Kevin Schneider, grandson of Tom and Donna Schneider of Victoria, and son of Joel and Diane of Lindstrom, Minnesota, was recently named to the Rum River All-Conference football team.  Kevin was captain of this year's Chisago Lakes High School football team.
Kevin played halfback/fullback, gained 439 yards in 85 carries for a 5.2 yards/carry average, and scored 6 touchdowns -- the longest being a 75-yard run against Andover.  He also had 14 tackles and one interception filling in as outside linebacker when necessary.  He also was selected for all-conference in Choir, and was selected as captain of this year's basketball team.
Kevin is the cousin of Matt, Anna, and Brian Kistner of Eden Prairie; Danielle and Emilee Schimshock of Chaska; and Jillian, Ashley, and Madison Entinger of Chanhassen.  He is shown above tackling his mom.

Grand Knight.  At a coronation ceremony held December 9th at Benilde-St. Margaret's, senior Kyle Davisson, son of George and Mary Davisson of Victoria, was chosen by his peers to serve as Grand Knight.  Kyle reigned over the Holiday Ball, a "girl ask guy" formal dance.  Other court members (also seniors) included Kiel Luse of Eden Prairie, Jake Mahler of Minnetonka, Armando Potter of Golden Valley, Sean Scallen of Minneapolis, and H.J. Shea of Wayzata.

Dr. Jamy Antoine, the new chiropractor in Victoria, had the opportunity to go on a medical mission's trip to Guatemala this past October.  The trip was planned through Edinbrook Church in Brooklyn Center, MN, with the purpose of ministering to the people of Huehuetenango, Guatemala.  Dr. Antoine, along with other medical staff, treated over 400 Guatemalan residents in just five short days, many of whom had never received chiropractic care.
Dr. Jamy bills himself as the new health wellness "coach" in the Victoria community.  He comes all the way from nothern frozen tundra.  Well, the City of Blaine anyway!

Joe Wickenhauser, Jr., was honored as Carver County's Outstanding Conservationists for 2002 at a December 10th annual convention luncheon for the Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts in St. Paul.  He is presented here on the left with the award from Randy Framm, associate editor of The Farmer Magazine.
"We're proud of Joe for what he has done in conserving our natural resources in our area," said Scott Hoese, Chairman of the Carver Soil and Water Conservation District, which nominated him for the award.  "He's a great advocate for conservation tillage use throughout the county.  He's even rented out his own personal No-Till drill to his neighbors to promote conservation tillage."

Three Victoria Mayors.  Dave Kocka, right, served as mayor from 1964 through 1967, almost two full terms.  His administration turned the gas on in Victoria.  Prior to that time, there was no natural gas available.  Jerry Schmieg, left, served as mayor from 1987 through 1994, four full terms.  His administration turned the water on in Victoria.  Prior to that time, there was no municipal water available to most of the city.  Mary Meuwissen served as mayor from 1995 through 2002, four full terms.  Her administration brought a current of electricity that changed every facet of life in Victoria.
