Supporting our Troops.  As Co-Chair of the Northwest Tonka Lions Club, Mound MN Adopt a Platoon Program, I thought you would be interested in the attached photo and information.
The Northwest Tonka Lions Club adopted the 1st Platoon, 135th Infantry of the Minnesota National Guard stationed in Iraq.
Steve Sarvi, Victoria City Administra-tor, is a Sergeant First Class of the platoon.  Since August, 2006, the Northwest Tonka Lions Club has been sending a box a week to Steve to share with his platoon members.  All of the items have been donated by local businesses, individuals, and Lions members.  The North-west Tonka Lions Club is also sending boxes to other units sta-tioned in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Steve wished to thank the Lions for the support of his platoon and all the troops.  While he was home on leave over Christmas, we held a small reception in his honor at our home in Mound.  Attached is a picture of Steve and myself.
My husband Jerry and I are enjoying every minute of retirement.  Our house is for sale and we hope to move back to Michigan where all our family is.  We've purchased a lot in Coldwater, Michigan, in a 55+ community on a lake.  Yes, you're right, Sue, that I am Past President of the Northwest Tonka Lions.  I enjoy reading the Gazette and keeping up on Victoria news.

Sheriff Byron 'Bud' Olson announced two new members of the Carver County Sheriff's Mounted Posse.  Shelly Reineccios of Winthrop and Gena Buetow of Cologne were sworn in by Sheriff Olson (right) during the Posse's Annual Appreci-ation Dinner in December.  The event was held at the Island View Golf Club in Waconia.  (Thank you, Kim and Kevin Heenie of Victoria, for your hospitality.)

Those interested in becoming a member are welcome to attend one of the Posse's monthly meetings, which are held on the second Monday of each month.  For additional information, please contact the Sheriff's Office at 952-361-1212.
