More February 2002 Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:
This year the Victoria Chamber of Commerce has been privileged enough to create the Victoria Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Program, awarding three $1,000 scholarships to local high school seniors.
Funding of the scholarships has been from the charity of local residents and businesses as well as proceeds from our annual Touch of Bavaria fest.  We are happy to be offering this to our commu-nity for the first time and excited to enrich the lives of our youth.
This June we will be awarding the scholarships to three outstanding Victoria residents, senior high level high school students, who demonstrate at least one or more key aspects that the Chamber finds valuable in our community.  The Chamber will consider school and extra curricular involvement, work ethic, and community service.
Students from all public, private, and home schools who are planning to attend post-secondary education are welcome to apply.
This scholarship is not based on financial need nor the choice of school for continued education.  All applicants will need to fill out a short answer question-naire, essay, and agree to a personal inter-view with the scholarship committee.  At least one recommendation from each category is also needed:
*School councilor, teacher, extra curricular coach, advisor, etc.
*An individual with whom you have a relationship through community, mentorship, religious involvement, or employment experiences.
If you, your family, or someone else you know would like to apply, you may pick up a copy at the city offices in down-town Victoria.  We also hope to have copies of the form at the local public schools' student resource centers soon.  Applications are due by April 15th and can be mailed to:
