Hi, fokes and blokes, So how many dot coms did you count during the Super Bowl commercials? And how many do you remember? Of course I watched the Super Bowl I know lots about football when I get interested. I wanted the Titanics to win because they were the underdogs. But I liked that Warner guy from the Los Angeles Rams too, so I was happy anyway. I wonder where his wife gets her hair cut. Probably somewhere in Iowa. Isn't that where they grew up? Anyhow, it cost those dot com people the same as everybody else -- over $2 million for 30 seconds of air time, if I'm recalling things accurately. Oofda! I'd ask Allan but he gets sick of answering my football questions. No wonder women don't play the game. -Editor Sue
To the Editor: We are going to build a school. It will be our school and it will reflect our community's values. This will be a very important chapter in Victoria's history book. We will expect future generations to compose and improve on our edition. It has been a very long week in Victoria -- for all of us. There have been seemingly endless meetings and conference calls. It has also been simply the best of weeks as I have gotten to know so many of you. I am so proud of the intensity and depth of your questions to the Chaska School Board. As you saw, their action betrayed their words. Your questions have galvanized the community and given those of us on the City Council a mandate. This process of reckoning with the Chaska School District has educated me to one final fact: We can do better -- I suspect much better. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you. Jim Paulsen, Victoria City Councilmember January 28th, 2000
To the Editor Online: The only reason that Victoria land may now be purchased by the school district is to appease the citizens of Victoria. I smell Red Herring all over this one. What has happened to the school promised to Victoria in the $42.5 million referendum. I'm certain the results would have been much different if all the voters knew the site was in Chaska. Victoria votes "yes" thinking the elementary was to be built in Victoria. The irreparable harm that will be caused to the public trust in School District #112 will have ramifications for referendums to come. Nobody has been able to give us a cost savings amount that is attached to the so-called "free" land offer. If 300 Victoria students are not sitting in Chaska or Chanhassen, that means 300 Chaska and Chanhassen students can sit there. Keep kids close to home. Each Victoria students loses at least 20 to 25 minutes per day on transportation time. That's also a cost. Every school meeting or function that a parent must attend is a cost if parents must drive a long distance to it. We would like to see the numbers in dollar amounts on Chaska versus Victoria sites. No one is willing or has been able to give them to us. Victoria, as a community, has rights and options. Maybe the Waconia school district is interested in equal partnership. To the Editor Online: I'm wondering what the cost is to be listed in your Online Directory. How long does a business remain listed? Also, I assume this is the same Directory you publish in your paper. Please advise. Thanks. Great uplifting paper, by the way. Lori Gerval loricel@winterneet.com EDITOR'S NOTE: The minimal annual cost includes both online and offline listings. The Directory is only available to Victoria-based businesses.
To the Editor Online: I decided to read your paper online because of the snail mail, but it is not as enjoyable online. For one thing, I can't bring it to my throne to read. When it finally comes through rain, snow, or sleet, I will be able to read more of it. Love, Nick, Your one and only son naorsen@prodigy.net
