Bird's Eye View.  Spending a couple nights with daughter Jenny and her family up north near Gully, Minnesota, we saw this eagle soar across the view from her living room window and settle on top of the stately evergreen tree.  After we gasped at the glorious site, we opened the  front door and snapped a few photos.  The eagle didn't mind us or our digitals.  Eventually he flew away, probably having spied a rabbit in the distance.  "Even though you fly high like an eagle and build your nest among the stars, I will bring you down from there," declares the Lord.  ~Editor Sue.

Honor Guard.  My husband, Bill Paal, is the Sergeant of the Honor Guard.  They have been asked to do a lot of Honor Guard Cere-monies this year, besides the parades and funeral ceremonies.  This picture of them was taken in front of the Victoria Post Office during the Victoria Volksfest.  Bill is the fourth from the left.
Left to right:  Don Jacques, George Koehnen, Gib Kerber, Bill Paal, Ed Schepers, and Sylvester Morchen.  This is part of the VFW Honor Guard.  The Legion has an Honor Guard also.  Bill is in that too.  Maybe you could do an article on them.
Thanks for the full page spread of us in San Antonio.  Fun looking at old pictures.

Danielle Gitzen of Victoria was the First Place winner in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest sponsored locally by the Victoria Lions Club.  Danielle's poster is among some 350,000 entries submitted worldwide in the 20th annual poster contest.  Judging is done on artistic merit, originality, and portrayal of the contest theme, "Peace Around the World."
Victoria Lions Club President Jeff Williams said he was impressed by the amount of effort exhibited by the Victoria Elementary students.  "It's obvious these young people have strong ideas of what peace means to them," he said.  "I am proud that we were able to provide them with the opportunity to share their visions with all of us."
Danielle's poster now advances to round two of the com-petition at the district level.  Ultimately one grand prize win-ner will receive a cash award of $2,500 and an all-expense paid-for trip for the winner and two family members to New York City for the awards ceremony at Lions Day at the United Nations.

Kick back for a couple minutes, relax, and picture yourself on the high plains of Montana at sunrise.  When the light veil of darkness lifts, it reveals a vast landscape of grasses and forbes dotted with herds of antelope and small groups of mule deer.  In the distance will be the black dots of angus cattle grazing on the 20,000 acres of short grass prairie.  Both of my pictures were taken on the C Bar J Ranch six miles south of Two Dot, Montana.  Enjoy, because it doesn't last long.
