To the Editor: I just found Stieger Lake in your town of Victoria, Minnesota. Since our last name is Stieger and there are not many with that name, I was curious to learn more. Do you have any information about how it got its name? My husband's family came from Iowa, but it is possible there may be some Stiegers in Victoria. If you do not have any information about the name of the lake, perhaps you could give me a contact person for the local historical society. We would like to know more about it. We live in Kansas now, but our daughter lives in Maple Grove and we just came back from there after a week visit-ing. The next time we come back we would like to visit Victoria and see the lake. Thanks. Shirley Stieger 623 Olive Leavenworth, Kansas 66048
To the Editor: The Victoria Athletic Association thanks Lois and Rick Plocher, as well as the entire staff at Floyd's, for the oppor-tunity to earn money for our T-Ball and Coach Pitch Baseball programs. Players' parents donated time to assist in setting up, taking tickets, serving food, and tearing down for Floyd's "Cele-bration of the Blues Festival," in ex-change for a very generous donation. The Blues Festival was held this past summer from August 6th-8th. We still hear stories about what a fan-tastic time the volunteers had, how won-derful was the food, and how outstanding the music. The donated money will be used to benefit Victoria's youth baseball programs and help keep fees to a mini-mum. Please show your support for these merchants who continue to go that extra mile in making Victoria the great commu-nity that it is. Lois, Rick, and the entire Floyd's staff, we thank you! To the Editor: We had a long night, and we had a great night. The voters turned out in record numbers and delivered an historic victory. I thank our supporters across this country. At every stop I asked you to make the calls, put up the signs, talk to your neighbors, and get out the vote. And because you did your part, we are cele-brating today. Thanks to you, we rec-eived more votes than any presidential tickets in history. America has spoken. And I am humbled by the trust and confidence of my fellow citizens. With that trust comes a duty: I will serve all Americans, so help me God. I am proud to lead such an amazing country, and I am proud to lead it forward. Reaching our goals will require the broad support of Americans. A new term is a new opportunity to reach out to the whole nation. We have one country, one Constitution, and one future that binds us all. And when we come together and work together, there is no limit to the greatness of America. A campaign has ended, and our cause is renewed. The United States of America goes forward with confidence and faith. I can see a new day coming, and I am eager for the work ahead. God bless you all, and God bless America. President George W. Bush www.GeorgeWBush.com United States of America
To the Editor: Thank you so much, residents of Vic-toria, for your support of my candidacy for the Victoria City Council. I met hundreds of Victoria residents during my campaign and was overwhelmed by your hospitality and responsiveness. Whether I was door-knocking, at a community event, or just reaching out over the tele-phone, I was welcomed by all of you. This was my first time ever running for elective office and it was a very enjoy-able experience. I feel very fortunate as I look forward to serving you once I am sworn into office after January 1st, 2005. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to contact me with your ideas, sugges-tions, or concerns. I can be reached by email at k.roden@mchsi.com or by calling 952-443-1866. Again, thank you for your overwhelming support. I will work hard for all of you and do my best. Sincerely, Kim Roden, Vice Chair Victoria Planning Commission Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: I spoke with Senator Joe Josefson a few weeks ago, and he expressed delight and interest in receiving your Gazette. Please add him to your growing circula-tion. Hope all is well with you and the family. Love, Sue Boatman Clear Lake, Iowa
