Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:
I am a student at St. Catherine in the Graduate Program for Library and Infor-mation Science.  I plan to write an advo-cacy letter supporting the development of a library in Victoria.  Could you send or email a copy of any past editorials, articles, or letters to the editor that you have published on this topic or direct me to where to find them on the website?  I appreciate the effort this will take and promise to send you a copy for the Gazette.  Thanks for the time.

To the Editor:
Just a thought ... I enjoy your Ten Years Ago column and have thought that by now you must have 10-year old Ten Years Ago columns.  If true, what a nice addition to have Ten and Twenty Year columns in each paper!  There are plenty of old-timers like me around, I would guess.

EDITOR'S NOTE:  Hi, John.  I had thought about it, but needed your prodding.  Find the new addition in this edition.

To the Editor:
A recent letter to the editor discussed the incorrect spelling of "Steiger Lake."  Several things:
1) I have an 1898 plat of Laketown Township.  The spelling of the lake then was Stieger, so the name change probably came within the last 100 years.
2)  The same 1898 plat map spells "Parley Lake" as it currently is spelled.  But, here too, the spelling was inadver-tently changed.  The original spelling, I am quite certain, was Pauly Lake.  John Pauly, an emigrant from Luxembourg, had settled on the eastern shore of the lake before 1860 and remained there until 1872.  I would like to see a Pauly descen-dant pursue the change back to its original.'

To the Editor:
If Carver Park would refer to the Gazette of July, 1989, they would have all the proof needed.  I reported at that time that the Minnesota Historical Society was very helpful to me in providing evidence of the correct spelling of Stieger.
Also, Delbert E. Miller, Land Acquisition Officer for Hennepin Parks, wrote that my material, as well as the testimony from John Stieger, have convinced us that the correct spelling is Stieger Lake.
Mr. Miller stated:  "Hennepin Parks will correct the spelling error in brochures, maps, signs, etc., as they are updated and replaced.  Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention."
This certainly sounds different than the recent letter from the Park who wrote, "I am sympathetic to the Stieger family's concerns, but I think it would be inappropriate and confusing to have our publications and maps contain a name different from the official published state name."
There was once a lake named Stieger,
Germans know it rhymes with eager,
But the street signs say Steiger
And that rhymes with tiger.
The spelling's been wrong,
Our apologies long
To the lake's namesake, Carl Stieger,
And, again, that rhymes with eager!

To the Editor:
Amen!  Wonderful article in your November Gazette by Pastor Bill Bonner!  The world, media, Church, and pastors need to stand up for Truth.  More articles on this are needed.
John Adams said, "The Church is the moral compass of society."  If the Church and its leaders don't stand up, how can we expect non-believing people to understand and know truth?  I pray more leaders in and out of the Church will stand on the truth of God's word instead of the offering plate.
Have a Blessed Day.

To the Editor:
Merry Christmas to the Gazette gang and Gazette readers.  Someone with a fishing shack will have some fancy fur-niture.  I "reeled" in the hook in the Yetzer's Home Furnishings ad on page 11 in the November Gazette.
As ever,
Kay Meuwissen, Chaska, Minnesota
