To the Editor: Many thanks for your good words on First Things. Such encouragement helps to keep us going ... although I hope you don't pick it up when you can't sleep in order to be put to sleep. Cordially, (The Rev.) Richard John Neuhaus Editor, First Things
To the Editor: Congratulations to Steve Sarvi on his reelection as Mayor of Watertown. I'm asking that he, as City Administrator of Victoria, verify that the City of Victoria contracts six hours of daily patrol time from Carver County. If this is true, it is very low, and I am sure that Sheriff Bud Olson has already told you folks this, and I guess that we who live in our area of Victoria should be happy with the times that we have had squad cars checking speeding. It would seem to me that this time most likely came from Bud's budget, which is not adequate. I would be willing to pay more in taxes to increase the patrol hours to 12 or 18 hours per day. Six hours does not leave much time for routine patrolling, just putting out fires. I certainly have no quarrel with the protection and response time that Bud and his staff have given us on 911 situations. As I recall from classes I have taken, excessive speed is the largest single factor in deaths on the highways. How much is a life worth? Certainly more than the fees the City of Victoria pays. From time to time I have suggested that Bud spend some time on our front porch to see for himself that about 50% of the vehicles that pass our home our speed-ing. He has not taken me up on this offer. I would be most happy to extend this offer to you as well. Uncle Ron Holtmeier Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Eight weeks have now passed since I began practicing with Drs. Dungey and Regnier. During that period of time, I have had the opportunity to meet many wonderful patients from the ages of 4 to 90. I have found this experience to be more and more rewarding with each patient I treat. I am surrounded by an exceptional staff in both Victoria and Waconia, which aids in creating an enjoyable working atmosphere that I am eager to enter every morning. It is this atmosphere I would like to share with patients seeking treat-ment. Together we form a team of health care professionals prepared to treat your dental needs. Aside from dentistry, I enjoy spending my spare time with family. My family, which includes my parents, two sisters, and three grandparents, has always been a priority in my life. We cherish every moment spent together. Some favorite memories have been created at our lake home in northern Minnesota and by traveling great distances. Other hobbies are antiquing, cooking, gardening, and, of course, shopping! Another person whom I hold very dear is my fiancee who shares in all of the above with me. We plan to reside in the Waconia area following a June, 2003, wedding. I look forward to meeting many of you in the future and hope I may be of service by delivering the treatment necessary to maintain the oral health of you and your family. Laura Beth Menser, D.D.S. Victoria/Waconia, Minnesota
To the Editor: I pray that my friends have enough health to serve others, enough wealth to lend others, enough love to give others, enough laughter to share with others, enough wisdom to understand your talents, enough motivation to use your talents, enough curiosity to search out life and its mysterious secrets, enough peace to rest and restore your mind, body, and spirit, and enough faith to endure until your last breath when God will carry you into eternity and say, "You have done well, and in you I am well pleased." To the Editor: November 5th, election day, was an exciting day for the Delaney family. Our victory would not have been possible without the help of over 150 volunteers. Voters of Victoria were generous, and I sincerely thank each and every one of you who supported me. The margin of victory in Victoria was key in winning the District III Commissioner seat in Carver County. Each vote was very important. Thanks to all of you who placed lawn signs, distributed literature, and those of you who welcomed me as I was going door to door introducing myself. I met a lot of very nice folks. What's next? My campaign was focused on issues concerning roads, homeland security, information technolo-gy, a lid on taxes, a clean environment is good business, a regional tourism com-mission, and respect for all citizens' opinions. I will be working on these issues, as well as many other county issues. Please contact me if you have questions or com-ments. Thank you. Gary Delaney Victoria, Minnesota
