OTHER NEWS FROM JULY NEW KIOSK AT VICTORIA FIELD HOUSE *Councilmembers awarded the con-tract for Victoria's next sanitary lift sta-tion and forcemain improvements to Bar-barossa and Sons Inc. in the amount of $393,173 which was the low bid. Antici-pated completion date is December, 2005. Construction site is on the Waterbrooke Fellowship property at Lake Wasserman and County Road 43. High bid on the lift station was $520,474. Estimated bid by the city's engineer was $414,490. *Councilmembers approved the pur-chase of space for advertisement by the Sports Locker of Waconia in a kiosk to be located in the lobby at the Victoria Field House. Kiosk ad space is $300. *Councilmembers approved the Fit-ness Center Participation Agreement with the Minnesota Independent Health Club Association (MIHCA) and the BluePrint for Health Fitness Discounts Enrollment Form. This program, according to Park & Rec Director Kristy Mock, helps the Vic-toria Field House remain competitive with other health clubs in the area. *Rick and Lois Plocher of Victoria received permission to have louder outdoor music at Floyd's Bar on Friday and Saturday nights during the Lions Tournament Weekend July 15th and 16th. All residents within 500 feet of Floyd's were notified of a public hearing on the issue. Two households registered com-plaints. The vote to allow an increase from 65 to 85 decibels passed 3-2. Voting for it were Mayor Bohn, Mary Thun, and Richard Tieden. Against were Terry Bishop and Kim Roden *Two Carver County Deputies, Joe Mundt and Erick Boder, will alternate town copy duties in Victoria in the evening hours. Town Cop Mike Kerber is on duty in Victoria during daytime hours. *Council is considering hiring a con-sultant to create the Commercial Develop-ment Master Plan for the City of Victoria that would include identifying an area down south by County Roads 10 and 11. City Engineer Jack Griffin and Planning Consultant Mark Kaltsas have already begun a land use plan for the existing downtown. *Councilmembers approved the pur-chase of two Hot Dog Steamers, one for the shelter at Lion Park and another for the kitchen at the Victoria Field House. Each unit costs approximately $365. *Councilmembers approved the 2005 to 2006 Fire Agreement with Laketown Township for a fee of $17,316, half of the payment due immediately and the rest by December 1st. According to Steve Sarvi, "The acreage which is being processed to be annexed by the city is still under con-tract because it's not on our tax rolls yet. Once it is, then the residences are re-moved from the contract." *City Finance Director Jylan Johnson was complimented by Councilmember Terry Bishop as she recommended pre-payment of bonds that will mean an interest savings of over $11,000. "I just want to say thank you to Jylan. There are members of staff trying to save taxpayer dollars," he said. *Councilmembers adopted a list of 2005 goals and objectives for Administra-tor Steve Sarvi. It includes, in part, set time frames for projects, effective and timely communication to residents, new format for quarterly newsletter, and response to citizen calls within 24 hours *A public hearing will be held for regulation of alarm systems in the City of Victoria and update fees for false alarms. Stated Steve Sarvi, "What we're trying to do is educate the public. The issue is that the city taxpayers are being billed and paying for the false alarms." Currently the property owner pays nothing for the first three false alarms. *Councilmembers accepted staff rec-ommendation to adopt general require-ments for street closures for neighborhood parties, street dances, parades, and other special events. In adopting guidelines, the city alleviates liability concerns.
