To the Editor: Hello, Sue! First of all, let me thank you for putting together such a nice publi-cation each month. As a Victoria resident and former journalist (now stay-at-home mother), I appreciate your hard work that goes into the paper and the way it binds the community. I am working on the advertising needs for the MOMS Club of Chaska/ Victoria's fall fundraiser. We are organ-izing a small business and craft show to be held Saturday, November 1st, at the Chaska Community Center. The money we get from vendor fees goes to the Children's Hospitals and Clinics and to the CAP Agency Crisis Nursery. We are also speaking to local busi-nesses about sponsoring the show to pay for rent, advertising, printing, etc. Any extra money we get from sponsors will also go to the charities. MOMS is itself nonprofit and we are keeping no money from this show, simply organizing it for the charities' benefit. Anyhow, maybe you can help us. I viewed your website (also very nice ... you must keep yourself very busy) and looked at the advertising prices. I am sending this a few months early, I know, but I'm due to have another baby any day now and wanted to get a head start. We have a 16-month old daughter already, so it could be hectic for a month or so. I see you are a grandmother now. Congratulations! My grandmother is named Adeline, and we are thinking about using it as a middle name if this child is a girl. Thanks you for your time. Jenny Simonsen Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Some time ago Floyd's in Victoria was approached by two local musicians with the idea of hosting a music event in honor of the 100th anniversary of the blues. After thinking this over a bit, Lois and Rick Plocher, owners of Floyd's, felt it might be possible to plan a full weekend event, entertain music lovers from all around, and turn it into a fundraising event for the Victoria Athletic Association. Together they formulated a plan. Not only would Floyd's be host to various blues bands, but also they were now going to have a Rib and Sweet Corn Feed. And here's the best part: All the admission and food proceeds would be donated to the Victoria Athletic Association! Their idea to offset the cost of the entertainment was to contact local and area businesses for cash donations in return for recognition in the advertising for the event. Rick and Lois' idea for food sale proceeds was to approach various local restaurants to donate their specialty ribs, and they had other sources for side dishes such as sweet corn and coleslaw. The VAA members agreed to man the gates and work the food booth, which eliminates all labor costs in these venues, thus creating more revenue for the VAA. The plan is now going full speed ahead. The bands are booked, including the well-known national blues sensation and leader of the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Kim Wilson's Blues Revue. At this point, over 100 letters have been sent out. Cash and food donations have already been received. So come on down to Floyd's and listen to some great music, eat delicious ribs and sweet corn, and help raise money for a truly worthy community organiza-tion, the Victoria Athletic Association. Anything you need to know about this event can be learned at the bar or check out floydsbar.com. Advance sale weekend passes are available at the bar or through the website. Thanks for printing this, and we hope to see all our friends and neighbors at Floyd's on August 8th, 9th, and 10th. Sincerely, Jim Moss Victoria Athletic Association
To the Editor: Did I tell you that one of your sub-scribers is moving back to Minnesota from Long Island? Our son Rick and his wife Mary have purchased a home between Waconia and Mayer. They close on the home August 25th (which just happens to be our 52nd wedding anniver-sary) and will be moving in early Septem-ber. Uncle Ron Holtmeier Victoria, Minnesota
