BUILDING THE VICTORIA FIELD HOUSE MORE BIDS AWARDED FOR ITS CONSTRUCTION Back on June 13th Victoria council-members awarded eight low bids to eight contractors for construction of the Vic-toria Field House for a combined cost of $1,970,571, as reported in detail in the last issue of the Gazette. On June 27th councilmembers award-ed low bids to an additional 16 contractors in 16 other categories of construction on the Victoria Field House at an additional cost approaching $2 million. As with the first bid package, the result of the low bids in the second package was under the budgeted amount. Some of the contractors include D & M Iron Works, Kellington, All Weather Roofing, Gardner, Hoffers, Crawford Door Sales, Twin City Acoustics, Becker Arena Products, Grazzini Brothers, Stein-brecher, Hauenstein Burmeister, Schind-ler, Tyco, and GR Mechanical. Some of their work includes carpen-try, roofing, door material, drywall, acou-stical ceilings, flooring, bleachers, ceram-ic tile, painting, lockers, elevators, fire protection, and plumbing. Dave Hanson, construction manager with Krause and Anderson, reported on June 27th that total project cost of the Field House (without the gym) appeared to hold steady at $5,350,000. This included construction, also $341,000 for design, $100,000 for equipment including zamboni, and $268,994 for contingencies. No electrical contract was awarded in June because low bid in the electrical category depended on whether the city would or would not include a gymnasium with the project. When the gymnasium was approved on July 11th, Laketown Electric, low bidder on the combined field house/gym project, received the award for $284,590 plus $49,980 for the gym.
PRIME ICE TIME IS CONTRACTED AT THE FIELD HOUSE FOR AN ANNUAL INCOME OF $300,000 Administrator Steve Sarvi reported on July 11th that all contracts for the pur-chase of prime ice time at the Victoria Field House have been signed by the various hockey associations and Holy Family Catholic High School. He said the "prime time hours" are considered to be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. and from 4:30 to 10:30 p.m. Holy Family has purchased 2:30 to 4:30. The contracts are for six months of each year for seven years. There are approximately 1,700 prime time hours. This means an annual income of approximately $300,000 related solely to the sale of ice. The city's 7-year contracts are with the Waconia Hockey Association, Minne-tonka Hockey Association, Chaska Hockey Association, and Holy Family. Waconia has a "180-day out" clause if it builds its own ice arena. Steve said there are other hours that hockey people consider to be prime time, for example, from 6 to 7 a.m. and 10:30 to 11:30 p.m. on weekdays, Saturday eve-nings, and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. These hours can still bring in additional revenue for the field house. The contract agreements begin as soon as Victoria can provide ice, which is projected to be on or about December 1st, 2002. Administrator Sarvi, in publicly thanking Mike Ayres for his invaluable service to the City of Victoria said, "He has worked tirelessly to get the agree-ments done." Meanwhile, the city is discussing the qualifications and title of a person who will operate the arena and field house.
