Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:
Here's a catch-up check for the Gazette that we enjoy so much.  Thanks again for your great newspaper.  We look forward to every issue.

To the Editor:
It has been some time since I last wrote, but had to write my "Amen" today to the article written by Tom Stumpf about having Mary Jo Copeland's children's home in Victoria.  It couldn't have been explained more completely or simply than Tom did.
Even among the Bedouin desert dwellers there is a belief that every time a person in need comes to our door, they come with a blessing.  Each time we reach out to assist another person, the blessing we are given is the opportunity to practice hospitality.
What a chance (if asked by Mary Jo for this property) Victoria has to receive many "graces" from the Almighty and become an even greater place to live and bring up children.
By the way, you are getting great at hiding that fishhook!  It is on page 22 in a petal of the Tiger Lily of the Chaska Farm and Garden ad.
Mrs. Jean Seamans, Excelsior, Minnesota

To the Editor:
I loved your lawnmower story.  My stubborn Norwegian husband ran out and bought an old fashioned reel mower this spring.  It truly is myself-propelled.  Enclosed is a news release about an up-coming event at Carver Park Reserve.

To the Editor:
Thanks for doing such a great job with the dance ad.  I will have a new e-mail address as of July 3rd if you would ever need it:  dbfort@usfamily.net.  Take care.  Donna Brown-Fort, Victoria, Minnesota

To the Editor:
I came across this on my desk the other day and was surprised to see I didn't mail it months ago.  Please excuse me for paying so late.  I truly enjoy the Gazette.  I like to keep up with what goes on in my hometown.
Dorothy Van Sloun, Minneapolis, Minnesota

To the Editor:
Hats off to a great article on Jeff Byrne, his family, and Cabin Fever Sporting Goods in Victoria.  I first met Jeff when he worked for Ken's Outlet in Chaska in the early '80's.  His personal service and friendly smile was always a welcome when entering the store.  If Jeff had any faults at all, it was his addiction to watching professional wrestling and his imagination that it was real.  I think his favorite wrestler at the time was a buffoon named Jesse "the Body" Ventura.  Isn't it ironic that both Jeff and Jesse became successful - hook, line, and sinker?
Gary Hartman, Shakopee, Minnesota

To the Editor:
I'm dong the desktop publishing for the Victoria City Newsletter and was wondering if you could e-mail me the graphic for the Touch of Bavaria Celebration.  The City would like it on the cover of the Fall Newsletter.  If you have it in a TIFF or GIF or WMF, that would be great.  Thank you for any help you can give me.

To the Editor:
To my friends, relatives, Victoria Lions, and the coffee group at Cabin Fever, a warm and heartfelt thank you.  Your many cards, prayers, and offers to help while coping with the loss of two of my recreational partners and friends, Bob Sudheimer and Duane Laumann, have been greatly appreciated.  Hopefully within the next few months I will be out and around to thank all of you personally.  Thanks for thinking of me.
Loane Burau, Victoria, Minnesota

To the Editor:
Thank you for providing space in your newspaper for Carol's "Heroes of history" article.  I am very grateful for the opportunity that she has to be a contributor to one of the greatest newspapers in the State of Minnesota.  May your pen be always fleet and your presses always humming!
Tim Vadnais, Victoria, Minnesota, via e-mail

To the Editor:
As a long-term resident of the area, I am saddened by the reaction of many newcomers to Victoria, to the possibility of the Copelands locating a children's home here.
I wonder how many of these new residents were aware of Victoria's history of welcoming group homes before they made the decision to reside here.  I wonder how many of these new residents are aware that the existing homes have not caused the problems that they evidently associated with such homes and that they apparently fear so greatly.
Please be willing to educate your-selves.  Knee-jerk fear mongering serves no useful purpose and does a lot of harm.  If the Copelands wish to buy and build on the land adjoining ours, we would welcome them enthusiastically.  That would be in keeping with Victoria's history.
