Did you ever see a fish jump straight up into the air, totally out of the water, and slap back into the lake? Me too. Did you ever wonder why a fish would do that? Me too. I have surmised the fish was a little loony, compared to all those other fish who are not jumping up out of the water. But now I know better. The jumping fish isn't loony at all. According to the March-April 2006 edition of a little magazine we receive from the DNR entitled Minnesota Con-servation Volunteer, "these fish end up in the air when they swim rapidly upward to grab an insect." Makes sense to me. Did you ever see a fishhook jump out of a newspaper? Me too. Did you ever wonder why a fishhook would do that? It's because I hide it each month in a new location of the Gazette, and when you turn the pages just right, the fishhook will jump out and catch your eye, in a manner of speaking. Last month the fishhook must have been hidden by a leprechaun because it was hiding in a four-leaf clover on page 13 in the Jerry Chapman ad. Lots of you found it there, but winner of the ten buck drawing is Charlie Diethelm of Chaska. I bet you're related to the Diethelms in Victoria! Congratulations, Charlie. The ten bucks will be on its way soon. There's another fishhook hiding in this Easter edition of the Gazette. If you find it, drop a line telling of its location and sinker in the mail to Box 387 in Victoria, MN 55386. Your entry will be dropped in the minnow bucket along with all the others. In the meantime, always be careful of flying fish and flying squirrels. And be careful when you're turning the pages of the Victoria Gazette. You never know when that fishhook will jump out at you … if you get my drift.
