Thiede House Going Down

Three homes sitting in a row on Quamoclit Street in downtown Victoria were demolished one after the other on Thursday, June 19th, 2008.  The City of Victoria purchased the homes within the last five years to accommodate downtown redevelopment.  The properties haven’t sold, however, so the city proposed to make the space green and lovely as they wait for a developer.  The center house — called here the Thiede House — was taken first so that Olson Demolition had better access to the homes on each side of it.  Walt and Gloria Thiede moved that house in from Highway 7 over by Galpin Lake.  They got water from Euch and Julianne Wartman, their next door neighbors, until they dug a well of their own.   The house came down in less than hour.

The End
