The Chain that Links Generations

Just as a chain link fence keeps balls in play, the Victoria Lions Tournament Weekend keeps generations of families in play.   It all happened this year, 2009, on July 17, 18, 19.

Eric Lundgren worked alongside his dad, Victoria Lion Mark Lundgren, on the Friday night work shift at the South Shelter of Lions Park.  The Lundgrens lived in Victoria before moving to Chaska several years ago.

Joyce and Lion Loane Burau of Victoria ate Lions burgers with their daughter Kelly who married Corey Macik in 2006 and moved to St. Paul.

Ralph and Janet Olinger of Victoria were part of three generations at the tournament.  Front  (l-r):  Grandchildren Nick Kempenich and Lily Singleton, daughter Lee Ann Singleton of Burnsville, son Chet Olinger of Chanhassen, Lion Ralph.  Back:  daughter Joy Kempenich of St. Peter, grandson Nathan Kempenich, Janet, Chet’s girlfriend Diane Wray.

Both sons in law were on business trips

Jane and Jerry Michel of Victoria entertained grandsons Jacob and Tanner, children of son John Michel of Carver.

Vangie Schneider of Waconia, former longtime Victoria resident and previous owner of Leo’s Bar with her late husband Leo Schneider, met up with daughter Peggy and her husband Tim Kaufhold of Victoria.

Joyce Schneider of Chaska (sister to Irene Vogel of Victoria) enjoyed touring Lions Park and seeing old Victoria friends with her son Gregg and his wife Sharon at the helm.

Alayna Triethart, 12, assisted her parents Sunday afternoon with the preparation and sales of hamburgers, brats, and hotdogs.  Alayna’s parents are DeeDee and Victoria Lion Todd Triethart of Victoria.

Ann Marie Fulkerson sat a while with her dad, Victoria Lion LeRoy Worm, who serves as the Lions Tournament Director.  Two of Ann’s sons (LeRoy’s grandsons), Tony and Matt, and their friends from Waconia and St. Boni were the grounds crew for the tournament.

Hi, Tom Quammen and Hi, Rick Stucki.  Yes, I know.  You are not, strictly speaking, brothers, but in Victoria-speak you are family.

Recruited by LeRoy, they readied the fields for the 112 games scheduled this year.  L-r:  Cal Delaney, Matt Fulkerson, Cullen Reus, Tony Fulkerson, and Alex Fortwengler.

Hi, Doug and Brenda Schmieg.  Where are your parents??  Where are your children??  Good to see you.
