Taste of Minnesota

I’m often interested in an occasion that is close to home.  So when we heard that Taste of Minnesota was going to be held at the Carver County Fairgrounds in Waconia this year, due to flooding at Harriet Island in Minneapolis, we decided to check it out on Friday, July 4th.

It was a patriotic, blue sky, flag flying day, maybe 80 degrees with a slight breeze, and nobody seemed in a hurry coming or going.  We arrived shortly after 12 noon with lunch in mind.

We ran into a few people we knew including Cowboy Tom Stumpf (guitar shirt) and his friend Patti Bartusek of New Prague.  On the left are Roger and Kathy Heller of Bloomington.  The girls are sisters.

Allan and I had shrimp on a stick, barbecued pork on a stick, and we shared a basket of nachos.

We ran into Jim and Betti Igel of Victoria.

There was a raised platform deck, maybe 15 feet high, in the arena of the fairgrounds and it gave me a chance to get an overview picture.  Do you see Elaine Williams of Victoria waving to the camera?

At age 93, Lloyd Bonkoski of Victoria may have been the oldest person at Taste of Minnesota 2014.  He and his wife Susie were sharing an Onion Blossom.

People were walking around with a peeled mango on a stick, pork chop on a stick, corn on the cob on a stick, barbecued ribs in a basket, brats and kraut, cheese curds, baskets of French fries, and other things.
