Spring Friars ~ 2006

Providence.  My girl friends and I traveled to Springfield, Illinois, to visit Father Elstan Coghilll, our old friend who was the priest at St. Victoria from 1985 to 1996, and just as we were preparing to return to Victoria, another old friend walked up the sidewalk.  It was Father Bernardine Hahn of St. Louis, Missouri.  Yes, they are both Francisican Friars, and it was May 18th -- Spring!

Me and my friar friends.  That's Fr. B. on the left and Fr. E. on the right.

Mary Moore showed Father Elstan our new church pictorial directory and pointed out all the old parishioners that he would remember from his days in Victoria.  Julianne held breakfast.

Father Elstan forget where the camera was.  Julianne still held breakfast.

As you can see it was a bright and shining morning.

A group photo.  That's not me in the white shirt, and I don't remember her name.

These guys were stationed together at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in the 1950's and then again in Bastrop, Louisiana, in later years.  Fr. B. in the brown is 90.  Fr E. in the wheelchair is almost 84.

This is the chapel where Father Elstan is wheeled every morning to concelebrate Mass at 7:00 a.m.  We attended Mass there also, then motor to a nearby truck stop for breakfast, then say goodbye and drive nine hours back to Victoria.  It's sorta like a pilgrimage.  And it always includes dinner the night before, at the Red Lobster.  Mmmmm.

The End

Love, Sue
