The Victoria GAZETTE

Sue’s Album

A symphony of photos

and fewer than a thousand words

at www.VictoriaGazette.com

From the Rooftop of the Flats by Sue Orsen/The Victoria Gazette.  “All residents of Victoria Flats have daily access to a large and luxurious open-air patio on the rooftop of the five-story building in downtown Victoria.  Equal patio access is granted to those paying $1,100/month for a studio apartment and those paying $2,400/month for a plush two-bedroom apartment.”  Click on Front Page.

A Fair to Remember by Sue Orsen.  “It was another amazing Carver County Fair, especially because of those taco salads at Ozzie’s.

Highlight of the Volksfest by Sue Orsen.  “The only crowd I saw at this year’s Volkfest was under the tent with Conductor Barry Fox and the Minnesota Valley Community Band.”

We We Are by Tom Abts, Deer Run Golf Pro.  “Many people who read the Gazette are new to Victoria and/or do not play golf.  So in the interest of educating and minimizing misunderstandings, the following is an attempt to clarify who DRGC is and its role in the community.”

Untethered by Pastor Kevin Dibbley, Waterbrook Christian Church.  “A year ago this month, we received news that Granny, my wife’s mom, had pancreatic cancer.  Well, Marilyn Van Eerden has now gone home to be with the Lord.”

Counting Steps in Old Town Victoria by Steve Jesberg, Former Resident II of Victoria.  “It seems to me that everyone is counting steps these days with fitbits and iphones or watches.  It got me wondering that when I was young and roaming the streets and woods around Victoria, how many steps I would have counted during an average day doing the important tasks that a young man must do.”

Terry Daly, 90, died August 15th.

Donovan Karg died August 19th.

Inspiring Group of Volunteers by Bill Olson, MCWD Board of Managers.  “Local action can truly make positive change that we can see and experience in our neighborhoods, cities, and state.  One way to make impactful change is to get involved in the Master Water Steward program.”

The Life and Times of Sadie by Judy Grosch, Chaska, MN.  “This is a true story of a sweet purebred English Springer Spaniel.  A family of four bought her for $500 when she was eight weeks old, naming her Sadie.  They had no idea the joy and sorrows that lay ahead.”

30 Years Ago the Gazette featured George and Esther Bender in “A Good Way of Growing.”

20 Years Ago the Gazette featured Eliza (Diokey) Manning, celebrating her 102nd birthday in “A Lady of the Ages.”

10 Years Ago the Gazette featured damage and devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, and  now we’re “Following Fay” in the Gulf.

September 2018

Will There Be Spaghetti This Year? by Tom Stumpf, Cowboy Correspondent.  “It was time for the annual canning of the spaghetti sauce which has become legendary in our family and evokes the oft asked, ‘Will there be spaghetti this year?’”

Crossword Words for Victoria Puzzles by Mike Wartman, Former Resident of Victoria.  “Retirement in 2017 brings me to the present and arduous task of what to do to offset the dangers and dementia or the maladies of old age.  Personally, I have chosen the crossword puzzle route to ward off the neutron breakdown.”

Home of the Brave by Lois Hansel, Chaska, MN.  “Local artist Jim Hansel will be at the 2018 MN State Fair every day of the fair.  At the age of 12, he was diagnosed with Stargardt’s, an eye condition that has left him legally blind.”

Hotdogs and Filet Mignon by Sue Orsen.  We had hotdogs at KleinBank’s Customer Appreciation Day and beef filet and pepper sauce at Fred and Mary Sue Plocher’s.

Coming to Victoria:  Savior of the World by Sue Orsen.  “It’s another blessing for Victoria and The Blessing House.  On Sunday, September 23rd, an invaluable, priceless oil painting by Mike Balma will be showcased in Victoria at the distinctive home located among gardens on the western shore of Lake Wassermann.  Mark will be revealing Christ in his Salvator Mundi.”

Drone Camp in Tioga, ND by Sue Orsen.  “Christopher Norgaard was recognized in August for his leadership on the Tioga Economic Development Corporation in starting and organizing the Tioga Drone Camp for Kids.”

Schram Winery by Sue Orsen.  “It was a hot and humid August evening that we found a perfectly picturesque spot in the shade less than ten minutes down the road.  From that spot we viewed a vineyard, a lake, cornfields, and a brewery.”

Congratulations, Election Staff by Randy Maluchnik, Carver County Commissioner.   “We are thrilled to report that our county/city and township clerks, staff, election judges, and new equipment worked so well during the primary election.”

On the Streets Where We Live by Sue Orsen.  “The movie and the lyrics seem written for Victoria and its many street events all summer long.”

Victoria’s Library Log by Jodi Edstrom, Youth Services Librarian.  Programs for September include Storytimes, Storywalks, Tails for Reading, Minecraft Challenge, Art Your Way, and Music Galore.

Remember When by Sue Orsen.  “Remember when the late Lloyd Braunworth posed in front of a card that very likely belonged to his father Bill Braunworth of Victoria race car fame?  Remember when Pete Kerber, was on the Victoria City Council?
