The Victoria GAZETTE

Sue’s Album

A symphony of photos

and fewer than a thousand words

at www.VictoriaGazette.com

Four Fresh Faces by Sue Orsen/The Victoria Gazette.  “For the first time in a half-century, or more, only fresh faces showed up to sign up for open seats on the Victoria City Council.  Each of them responded generously to the Gazette’s questionnaire and request to stop by to take photos at their front door.”  Click on Front Page.

Four at the Front Door for Two City Council Seats by Sue Orsen.  The candidates are Judy Black, Sharon Eklund, Paul Hepperla, and Deb McMillan.

Victoria Fire Dept Open House by Sue Orsen.  “Barely 50 degrees with a light misty rain on Monday October 1st, did not keep families away from activities, supper, and fire truck rides.  This year the Fire Dept exchanged the exhibits and information booths to where the dining tables are usually located.

The Old Cane Pole by Steve Jesberg, Former Victoria Resident II.  “The other day I was looking up in the rafters of my garage when I came across an old cane pole.  I think I got that cane pole around 1955 from my Grandpa John Schneider.”

Savior of the World by Sue Orsen.  “This remarkable event at The Blessing House on Sunday afternoon, September 23rd, is the last time ‘The Savior of the World’ by Mark Balma will be seen on the continent of North America.  From Victoria it goes on a trip across Europe.”

Final Year for Heart & Home by Sue Orsen.  “June Rosckes launched her Heart & Home Boutique in 1994 and moved the boutique from the Waconia American Legion Auditorium to their old family barn in 1999.”

Three Mile Drive by Sue Orsen.  “It was a hot and humid August 2018 afternoon that we found a perfectly picturesque spot less than five minutes down the road.  At that spot, in the air-conditioned comfort of our comfortable car, we slowly traversed Three Mile Drive at the MN Landscape Arboretum.”

ConstructingTrail Segment to Victoria in 2019 by Randy Maluchnik, Carver County Commissioner.  “Within the planned trail alignment, the County made significant progress on preparing to construct a nearly two-mile segment in 2019.  This new section of trail begins near the intersection of Hwy 5 at Century Blvd, extending west to Minnehwashta Parkway.”

Stephen Bunnell, 61 died August 30th.

Julius Smith, 88 died September 8th.

The Tastes of Fall by Christie Schlueter, Regular Visitor to Victoria.  “All the tastes of all are coming and bringing you some of the best tastes of the year.  These recipes will be hit at home and also at any gathering.”

More Around Town by Sue Orsen.  “Construction on the exterior expansion of the Creamery is projected to begin soon with possible completion in February 2019.”

October 2018

Be Careful Who You Follow by Tom Stumpf, Cowboy Correspondent.  “We can’t all be leaders.  But we can be educated followers.  Many people thinking and acting righteously can be a mighty force.”

The 2019 PGA Tour by Tom Abts, Deer Run Golf Pro.  “The 2019 season starts October4th.  Seriously.  The 2018 season ended on September 23rd.  So the Ryder Cup was the break between seasons.  I’m glad our Winter Break during the school year was better than that.”

Oktoberfest at the Lions Pavilion by Sue Orsen.  “In mid September, it was 90 degrees in Victoria.  A week later, temperatures in the the ‘60s.  On September 29th, it was down in the 30’s and 40’s.  So the floor heat felt good in the Lions Pavilion that evening and the garage doors stayed down.”

Fall Festival at Hartman Garden Center by Sue Orsen.  “The air was crisp and cool that Saturday noon of September 29th, and the colorful abundance of fall plants and produce at the Hartman Garden Center brought beauty and warmth to Bavaria Road.”

Where Every View is a Postcard by Mike Wartman, Former Victoria Resident.  “Retired folks typically identify ‘bucket list’ vacations and locations to drain their meager pensions and savings.  I was cajoled into a three and a half week excursion into wonders of this country’s 49th state, Alaska.”

A Perfect Apple Day by Sue Orsen.  “Sunshine on Saturday, September 22nd, provided a perfect Apple Day in downtown Excelsior.  The crowd was phenomenal.  The wares were unending.  The lake was calm.  The music was upbeat.”

A Time to Plant with Pollinators in Mind by Bill Olson, MCWD Board of Managers.  “We may be headed into fall colors, cooler weather, and less daylight, but gardening doesn’t have to be all about preparing our garden beds for winter.”

Meditation of a Buckeye Nut by Amy Johnson, Victoria, MN.  “I was buried years ago by the autumn wind, when I fell to the forest floor.  As I lay the squirrels clawed, gleaming crows pricked and pecked; cold fall rains soaked my flesh.”

2,000 Pounds of Carp Removed from Stieger Lake by Telly Mamayek, MCWD.  “The MCWD in coordination with Three Rivers Park District, Carver County, the City of Victoria, and the rest of the Six Mile Creek-Halsted Bay Subwatershed Partnership, began the first round of carp removals in the Lake Mtka headwaters.”
