The Victoria GAZETTE

Sue’s Album

A symphony of photos

and fewer than a thousand words

at www.VictoriaGazette.com

They Shall Not Grow Old by Sue Orsen/The Victoria Gazette.  “Heaven Can Wait is the name of the B-24 U.S. bomber plane that was shot down by the enemy on March 11th, 1944, in the throes of WWII.  All eleven U.S. crew members perished, none having reached the prime of their lives, some just barely 20, some married and expecting their first child back home, some already young fathers.”  Click on Front Page.

The King of Fowl by Tom Stumpf, Cowboy Correspondent.  “Many of you good followers of this small corner of the published word will already know that if the author were to pick one pastime which has brought the most joy and recreation into his life, it would be the annual pursuit of the king of the upland game birds, the brightly plumed Chinese Ring Necked Pheasant.

Carver County Continues Fight for Hwy 212 Funding by Author.  “County officials, including Commissioner Randy Maluchnik, met with U.S. Representative Tom Emmer and Southwest Corridor Transportation Coalition members last week to discuss strategies for fulling funding the U.S. Highway 212 project’s final phases.”

Augusta Ballpark Made Many Good Memories by Betty Kuntz, Waconia.  “Ralph and Marian Schlegelmilch have a farm located on the Augusta Ball Park.  They made the Park many years ago.  The building is rented out in summer for special occasions.”

Changes in Federal Law by Sarah Berg, MN Dept of Human Services.  “Due to changes in federal law, an estimated 375,000 Minnesotans will need to change Medicare plans.  Senior LinkAge Line and SeniorLionkAgeLin.com are available to help.”

Special Home for Homeless Women Veterans by Katie Elfstrom, BATC Housing First MN.  “The five-bedroom home was built by Lennar and their generous trade partners.  It is owned and operated by the MN Assistance Council for Veterans to provide transitional housing services to homeless women veterans.”

Snow in the Morning Gone by Afternoon by Dan Greenwood, MN River Weekly Update.  “Greater Mankato residents were greeted with a wintry landscape on October 14th.  It was the same in Victoria.

The Wonders Came to Life by Jen Bellmont, CVFT.  “The Wonders is a play based on the 1996 hit film entitled ‘That Thing You do.’  Performances occurred in September.  Other plays are lined up by the Chaska Valley Family Theater.”

Gary Sinnen, 65, died Saturday, October 20th.

The Victoria Library Log by Jodi Edstrom, Youth Services Librarian.  Some classes include Holiday Time Book Exchange, Storytimes Galore, Let’s Talk Turkey, and Tails for Reading.

The Victoria Burrow by Sue Orsen.  “It’s an amazing establishment that opened Friday, October 19th, in downtown Victoria.  The Victoria Burrow was created for people of all ages, an entertainment center that already attracts residents from near and far.

City of Lakes and Boats by Mike Wartman, Former Resident of Victoria.  “Entry to many of Victoria’s lakes was provided by the families that had lived on that lake for what seemed like centuries.  Each boat invariably leaked, with the 18 coats of waterproof paint not quite enough to plug the hole.”

A Two-Way Street by Tom Abts, Deer Run Golf Pro.  “I can’t stop thinking about the hospitality that we encountered everywhere throughout Spain.  Then it hit me!  The culture of the country highly values hospitality.  So much so, that the customers are as gracious as the staff.

Carver County Update by Randy Maluchnik, Carver County Commissioner.  “It would be hard, with all the political ads, to escape the fact that Election Day 2018 is near.  Visit the Carver County website and click on the ‘Elections’ button near the top of the page to find your polling location.”

Signs of Fall Everywhere by Bill Olson, Victoria, MCWD.  “The air is cooler, the animals are gathering food for winter, and the leaves are turning color and blanketing lawns.  While we all seem to slow down this time of year, it’s actually the best time to do some annual lawn care to ensure a healthy lawn for next year.”

Crown of Glory Celebrates its 50th and the Future by Mary Leopold, Crown of Glory.  “Crown of Glory Lutheran Church in Chaska is capping off a milestone year.  This special service will be on Sunday, November 11th, at 9 a.m., 1141 Cardinal Street, and is open to the public.”

New Victoria Should Have the Proper Victoria Zip Code:  55386 by Sue Orsen.  “I ask the City of Victoria to accept the challenge and fight for this.  An important and significant opportunity must be taken advantage of today.  Tomorrow will be too late.  That opportunity is this:  to obtain Victoria MN 55386 addresses for all of the undeveloped property that is anticipated to soon be annexed to the City of Victoria.”

Why Should Half of Victoria be assigned a Chaska Zip Code?  by Sue Orsen.  “We’re talking about acres and acres of vacant property, currently rural land, that will soon be annexed to the City of Victoria.  It’s Ground Zero and it should be a straight-forward process to get Victoria MN for those properties.”

Celebrate Fall with Squash by Christie Schlueter, Regular Victoria Visitor.  “Squash is one of the best fall and winter foods, full of flavor and vitamins.”
