Sue’s Album

A symphony of photos

and fewer than a thousand words

at www.VictoriaGazette.com

A Wee Little Trip to the “Isles of Old” Across the Pond by Mike Wartman, Former Resident of Victoria“A tasty beer in Scotland, Ireland, France, Greece, and the Netherlands?  Done it!  A failed effort at retirement while teaching at an 18th century castle?  Did it!”

A Bountiful Harvest by Tom Stumpf, Cowboy Correspondent“The growing season this summer past was once again very conducive to crops in abundance, albeit a tad on the wet side.  But the passer of the gardening gene, having grown up on a sandy farm during the dirty thirties, was always happy to see it rain.”

The PGA Tour by Tom Abts, Deer Run Golf Pro“I feel like money is running sports.  The money should come as a result, not drive the train.  A real quality product will have a market and be successful.”

When Business and Nature Mix by Bill Olson, Victoria, MCWD Board“If you’ve ever been around Minnehaha Creek as it flows behind Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, you know it is a unique urban sanctuary.  The creek winds placidly through lush green wetlands.”

Halloween at the Rec Center by Sue OrsenIt was a cold afternoon evening and so the event was held in Victoria Rec Center rather than downtown in the Bayfront Park Plaza.

Additional Parking is Coming to Town! by Sue Orsen“Staging area during construction of Victoria Flats has kept the new parking lot full of equipment and activity these past several months.  In October the space cleared a bit and became something to see and feel.”

Additional Parking is Coming to Town! by Sue Orsen“As phase two of the Rose Street Parking Lot is completed, the grade will be adjusted and leveled.  By next summer the parking lot will be a welcoming location in downtown Victoria.”

Editor’s Family Page 1 by Sue Orsen“We spent a wonderful weekend in Marshall with Mom and Dad and my siblings, all seven of us and our spouses.  Later in October, I had dinner at our Victoria home for several of Allan’s first cousins.”

Editor’s Family Page 2 by Sue Orsen“How fortunate we got to spend a beautiful October day with our son Nick and his family at MN’s Largest Corn Maze and Harvest Festival in Brooklyn Park.”

Victoria’s Library Log by Kathy Boganni, Branch Manager“A turkey scavenger hunt in the children’s area will be available for children who come to the library in November.”

30 Years Ago the Gazette featured  Oleda Gregory in “Oleda’s Story.”

20 Years Ago the Gazette featured Jesse Coghill in “Voices Are Calling.”

10 Years Ago the Gazette featured Leif Ewald, the only one of triplets born in March of 1999 who survived, in “Leif Unleashed.”  The three boys all weighed about the same, 3.5 lbs.

Tom Abts & This Place Called Deer Run by Sue Orsen, The Victoria Gazette“Tom Abts was honored in October as the 207 Minnesota PGA Golf pro of the Year.  But Tom talks instead about ‘this place” — the Deer Run Clubhouse, Deer Run Golf Course, Deer Run Hospitality.”  Click on Front Page.

Dear Tom Abts by Several Friends and Members of the Deer Run Board“You do an outstanding job running one of the most successful clubs in the State of Minnesota.  Congrats on a job well done.”

Parked for the Open House by Sue Orsen“This was the second time that the Victoria Fire Dept held their annual Open House on a Monday evening.  It works out well for both firefighters and the community, compared to previous Saturday afternoons when people are working in their yards with fall leaves and cleanup this time of year.”

Mental Health Facility on Lake Bavaria by Carver County Commissioner Randy Maluchnik“Carver County is working to purchase the former Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice Home on Lake Auburn from Ridgeview Medical Center and repurpose it as a crisis stabilization facility.”

Mental Health Facility on Lake Bavaria by City Councilmember Jim Crowley“Thanks go to Bob Stevens, former CEO at Ridgeview, and Rod Franks, County Health and Human Services Director, for taking time to discuss with me information about the proposed mental health facility proposed in Carver County.”

MN’s Largest Candy Store by Sue Orsen“Located near Jordan, the big yellow barn is overwhelming.  I didn’t know licorice came in so many colors and flavors.”

The Hills Are Alive with the Sound of Music by Sue  Orsen“The hills at the MN Landscape Arboretum were alive with the sound of music in October when we personally attended a performance entitled Nature:  A Walking Play.”

Sweet Potato Goodness by Christie Schlueter, Regular Victoria Visitor“Through the fall and winter, there isn’t a better vegetable.  Sweet potatoes are full of great vitamins and rich in fiber.  Enjoy these recipes.”

Remember When by Sue Orsen“Remember when Tower Blvd in downtown Victoria was occupied by a two-story building that was also a hotel?  Remember when the place was called Tuffy’s Tavern?  Remember when he served pickled turkey gizzards and raccoon feeds?”

Christmas in Victoria on Saturday, December 9thSanta arrives by fire truck in front of Victoria City Hall.  Events at the firepit, the plaza, the bandstand, and the library.
