More Fish to Fry

The Victoria Lions held their annual fish fry this year on Friday, March 23rd.  What goes on behind the scenes for this event in order to feed 500 hungry customers?

Said Lion Laura O’Neill, “I do whatever I’m told.”

Lion Doug Dyer sliced lemons.

Lion Brent Romenesko and Lion Shawn Eastman wiped down the tables.

Lion Michael Stambook helped with staging.

Lion Judy Janish played with the silverware.

Lion Matt Bergmann and Lion Kurt Zuppke checked on the coolers of fish to make sure they were thawed, cold, and ready!

Lion Pete Kerber plowed snow over the hill to make room for the cooking shack that morning.  It’s maneuvered to the edge of the parking lot, some feet away from the back door of the St. Victoria Catholic Church, where the Lions meet and hold events until their Pavilion project across the street is completed.

Lion Jack Schmieg arranged the fish in nice orderly layers so the Fryer Lions could easily pick up the fillets without ruining their tender shape.

Lion Joe Schmieg and Lion Pete Kerber had flour on their fingers as they came to the door of The Shack.

Lion Jim Crowley panhandled the fish.

One of the first couples through the door to purchase dinner tickets was Lion Duane Kroells and his wife District Governor-Elect Lion Diana Kroells.
