Sue’s Album

A symphony of photos

and fewer than a thousand words

at www.VictoriaGazette.com

My Near Death Experience by Sue Orsen.  “It happened on our first day in Ireland.  We had finally landed Tuesday, April 3rd, in Dublin at 8:41 a.m. (Dublin time) after an exhausting 9 hours of flight time from Minneapolis plus 3 hours of overlay in Atlanta.  Our group of 32 included Father Bob White of St. Victoria and other friends and people with connections to St. Victoria.”  Click on Front Page.

Okay, Hardly Ever!  by Tom Stumpf, Cowboy Correspondent.  “It all started about 35 years ago, when I was out on my own with my own property, my own responsibilities, and my very own snow shovel.  It happened to snow in early April that year and so, as a dutiful citizen with a snow shovel and a very short and narrow driveway, I quickly moved the offending heavy wet white stuff off to the side.”

Responsibility of the Game by Tom Abts, Deer Run Golf Pro.  “Many years ago, while having a conversation about why people played golf, I said they liked the inherent responsibility of the game.  You hit it there; you then hit it from there.  That’s golf in a nutshell.”

Making a Crucial Difference by Jenna Zark.  “They are our neighbors, friends, siblings, and co-workers, thrust into caregiving roles with little notice or preparation.  Their loved ones may be dealing with dementia or the aftermath of a stroke.”

Dear Neighbors by Dr. Scott Jensen, MN State Senator.  “Legislators sign onto bills for many reasons other than to support them with a vote.  Exploring ideas, expanding boundaries of discussion, or creating vehicles for future legislative proposals are all reasons to consider giving a boost to an idea that you know is not yet ready for committee presentation or floor debate.”

Landscape Arboretum Come Alive by Susie Hopper, Communications.  “The exhibition featuring monumental origami-inspired sculptures and artwork opened on April 28th and continues over the seasons.”

The Fancy Chevalle by Amy Johnson, Victoria, MN.  “No offense to the residents of the fancy neighborhood Chevalle.  It appears to be a great place to live.  Its houses are new and bold, and its roads wind around various ponds.”

Merit Scholarship Recipient by Elizabeth Tollefson.  “Colton Schrempp, son of Tom and Tracy Schrempp of Victoria, was named a Merit Scholarship Recipient at the University of MN-Crookston.”

Richard Vanderlinde, 65, of Victoria died March 27th.

Richard Rice, 85, of Victoria, died March 31st.

Rita Clarone Williams, 85, of California died Jan. 23rd.

May 2018

Our Humming & Singing Mom by Mike Wartman, Former Resident of Victoria.  “Everyone remembers Julianne (Mom) and her music, always humming and singing.  Always in tune and always lightly sung.  She never actually hummed or sang song, but an odd Julianne melody that was never repeated or hummed or sang again.”

The “Bests” of Old Town by Steve Jesberg, Former Victoria Resident II.   “This is the best of my summer days in Victoria more than 60 years ago.  If you remember some of these and you grew up in Victoria, you are probably as old as me.”

Blooms & Brunch by Susie Hopper, MN Landscape Arboretum.  “Mother’s Day is one of the busiest days of the year at the Arboretum.  With 38,000 gorgeous tulips in bloom and a luxurious, chef-made savory and sweet brunch, visitors will have an amazing holiday experience on May 13th.”

Managing Water Levels by Bill Olson, MCWD Board of Managers.  “One of the reasons the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District was formed in 1967 was to respond to devastating flooding along Minnehaha Creek and Lake Minnetonka.”

The Sheriff’s Shingle by the Carver County Sheriff’s Office.  “A truck driver was allegedly looking down at his cell phone for 8 seconds before he slammed into a car, killing a father of three … Deputies responded to an armed robbery at KleinBank in Victoria on April 27th at about 2:00 p.m.”

Super Simple Salads by Christie Schlueter, Regular Visitor to Victoria.  “With fresh spring produce coming into the stores and farmers’ markets, you will want to take advantqage of all that freshness and make as many salads as you can this time of year.”

Victoria’s Library Log by Jodi Edstrom, Youth Services Librarian.  “The Victoria Library is open Monday and Wednesday from 10 to 6, Tuesday and Thursday from 1 to 8, Friday f rom 12 noon to 5, and Saturdday from 10 to 3.”

Waiting is Worship by Pastor Kevin Dibbley, Waterbrooke Christian Church.  “In the Bible, waiting is actually a way of worshipping God.  It is the place where we, by God’s grace, wrestle self-will to the ground.  Waiting humbles us and reminds us that God is God and we are not.”

Remember When by Sue Orsen.  “I remember when Julianne Wartman and I had so much fun together, practically since the first day I started playing the organ and piano at St. Victoria in 1982 and Julianne was a member of the choir.”

Poverty in Carver County by Randy Maluchnik, Carver County Commissioner.  “Carver County is currently the wealthiest county in Minnesota, with a median household income of $94,100.  The median income for Minnesota is $65,600.”

Catalyst Medical Clinic in the neighborhood.  “This new clinic opened April 16th, 2018, and is proud to offer a full range of family-based practicioners and an experienced and helpful office staff.
