A symphony of photos

and fewer than a thousand words

at www.VictoriaGazette.com

What a (almost) Good Dog!.  by Tom Stumpf, Cowboy Correspondent.  “Those of you good readers who follow this column on a regular basis, all six of you, may remember the introduction last summer of the newest pack member into our home, that being Hazel the Yellow Lab.  The little goofball is just so danged precocious and over the top energetic, it leaves me no choice but to share stories with you.”

Sherlock Holmes: Golf Instructor by Tom Abts, Deer Run Golf Pro.  “In March 1978, while in my senior year of college, I had three books on my nightstand:  The Outline of History by H.G. Wells, The Seven Storey Mountain by Thomas Merton, and Power Golf by Ben Hogan.  Forty years later, I’m still on the same search.”

Victoria Lions Pavilion by Lion Al Orsen.  “February was a busy month inside the Lions Pavilion, none of the progress visible from the outside, at Lions Park.  The walls were insulated.  Electrical work was done for the recessed lighting, switchies and dimmers, video and sound.  The ceiling was insulated and cedar panels were installed.  The 11 garage doors were built and all put in place.

“I got the Message Loud and Clear” by Carver County Commissioner Randy Maluchnik.  “I got the message loud and clear no only from the citizens petitioning through phone calls and emails, but also from communication from their elected city officials regarding the placement of a brush and yard waste sit at the Arboretum location in Victoria.

Proposed Victoria Location is Not a Good Site for the Dump by Sue Orsen.  “Several residents of Victoria spoke to the Carver County Board on February 20th, presenting a variety of points and protests against placing a county-wide yard waste site on 82nd Street and Bavaria Road in Victoria.  The property is owned by the University of MN Landscape Arboretum.”

Instant Pot Mania in March by Christie Schlueter, Regular Victoria Visitor.  “If you are one of the lucky ones to get an instant pot for the holidays, you are soon going to see how wonderful this appliance is.  These pots cut down cooking times tremendously.  I have been experimenting and here are some of my favorite recipes so far.”

Remember When by Sue Orsen.  “Remember when Victoria had its First Annual Ice Fishing Contest on Stieger Lake?  It was on February 13th, 1988.  We drove down past the Heutmaker barn on the hill, and everyone parked on the lake or the adjacent Commercial Anglers Take Carp from Lake Wassermann by Bill Olson, Victoria, MCWD Board of Directors.  “All of the cold weather we’ve been having this winter has been great for those of us who like to get out on the ice.  Anglers have been out in force on area lakes, including Lake Wassermann in Victoria where commercial fishermen have been busy removing thousands of pounds of common carp.”

Coldest Ever Fishing Contest by Sue Orsen, The Victoria Gazette.  “The 30th Annual Victoria Ice Fishing Contest on February 4th, 2018, marked its milestone anniversary by being the coldest ever!  At 8:30 a.m. that morning, on our way to church at St. Victoria, the car told us it was 7 below zero.  Click on Front Page.

Mount Olivet Motorheads by Debra kind, Mount Olivet Lutheran Church.  “The 10th Mount Olivet Motorheads Winter Event was held February 20th at a private ballroom/garage complex in Minnetonka.  Over 250 people attended the event.  Pastor Kurt Kalland shared a Racer’s Prayer during devotions.”

Victoria’s Library Lpg by Jodi Edstrom, Youth Services Librarian.  “Bring in your technology questions any time the Victoria Library is open.  For more program information, call the Victoria Library at 952-442-3050.

March was Ho-Hum and Not Ho-Ho in Little Victoria Burg by Mike Wartman, Former Resident of Victoria.  “March became the Dog Days of Winter with just not much to.  Smack dab in mid march was St. Patrick’s Day but no one in Victoria was Irish and there was no green beer to break up the beer drinking monotony of Schmidt’s and Grain Belt.”

Minneopa Falls by Bre McGee, MN River Weekly Update.  “Do you see the heart carved into the frozen falls?  They are located in Minneopa State Park just outside Mankato.  It plummets 40 feet into a beautiful gorge on its way to meet the MN river.”

Luck o’ the Lake by Jocelyn Youngstedt, Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Chamber.  “The 6th annual Bridgewatere Bank Luck o’ the Lake 5K Fun run will once again paint the streets of Excelsior green on St. Patrick’s Day.”

Coldest Fishing Contest Continued by Sue Orsen.  “Why was shuttle transportation needed from downtown to the lake?  With such ice-freezing temperatures, why couldn’t we all park on the lake like we’ve so often done in the past?”

2018 Spring Parade of Homes by Builders Association of the Twin Cities.  “The tour this year offers 481 new homes to tour — 14 of them located in Victoria — from February 24th to March 25th, Thursdays through Sundays.”

30 Years Ago the Gazette featured a proposal of developing the downtown business district in a Bavarian theme in “Is Victoria Ready?”  An authentic European Alpine Village was deemed to be defensible and supportable by the Victoria Chamber of commerce.

20 Years Ago the Gazette featured the Victoria Ice Fishing Contest in “Show on Ice.”  This is the first time the Victoria Chamber of Commerce is not involved in the event, having turned its sponsorship over entirely to the Fire Department.

10 Years Ago by the Gazette featured the annual Victoria Ice Fishing Contest in “Through the Woods.”
