Get Flexible by Tom Abts, Deer Run Golf Pro.  “Sam Snead was unbelievably flexible, which was the secret to his beautiful and long last golf swing.  Snead should  be Rory McElroy’s model, not Tiger Woods.”

Settled In at the Cabin by Chuck Freiberg, Up North Cabin Guy.  “The gal and I were sitting in the living room with the fireplace warming up the house.  I had just brought in another armload of cut logs and we’d settle down to watch another episode of Downtown Abbey.”

A Dinner Party at the Victoria House by Sue Orsen.  “For the most part, I hadn’t seen these old choir friends since the end of 2015, when I quit playing piano for them at St. Victoria.  We had dinner, hung out a while, and enjoyed each other’s company.”

The Soul of a Mother by Tom Stumpf, Cowboy Correspondent.  “There is no real good way to start this bit of information other than to simply tell you that my mom, Marie Susan Stumpf, passed away in the early hours of Ash Wednesday.”

Picking the Mayor’s Mind by Sue Orsen.  Replied Mayor Tom O’Connor, “I am generally in favor of roundabouts as a way to safely move traffic.  The intersection of Park Drive, Kochia Lane, and Hwy 5 does not have the necessary warrants (think volumes) to support a roundabout.”

Excelsior Artist Wins 11th Major Art Award by Bob Bushnell, Excelsior, MN. “Arden Harrison-Bushnell won first place for the Dove of Peace fiber art, presented by the principle curator of the American Swedish Institute at Arts in Harmony.”

The Days of Altar Boy Servitude in Victoria by Mike Wartman, FormerResident of Victoria.  “Prone to compare everything to how it was in my day, I wondered if any altar boy or girl ever worked as hard as I did in my altar boy career.”

Ardes Koehnen, 92, died January 29th.

Neil Koebnick, by 80, died January 31st.

Tony Gregory, 48, died January 30th.

George Koehnen, 83, died January 31st.

Elaine Simon, 89, died February 9th.

2016 Snow Family by Editor Sue Orsen.  “Remember when Nick Orsen was a little boy growing up on Lilac Lane in Victoria?  Remember when he bought a red scooter to get to work at the mini golf course?”

Jerry and Gerda Schmieg will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary at an Open House at St. Victoria on Sunday, April 17th.

Little Ones on the Lake by Sue Orsen/The Victoria Gazette“It was a pretty nice day on the lake as temperatures hovered in the 20’s and gave hundreds of people, big ones and little ones, a chance to get some fresh air and a few fish.  Biggest predator fish was a 5.58 lb northern pulled in by Mark Stolnieks of Victoria.  Biggest panfish was a .33 lb sunfish caught by Mark Goldberg of Victoria.”  Click on Front Page.

A Group of Motorheads from Mount Olivet by Deb Kind, Mount Olivet Lutheran Church.  “The 8th annual Mount Olivet Motorheads Winter Event was held February 16th at a private home in Minnetrista.  Over 350 people attended the event, which is 100 more than last year.”

A Group of Lions from Across the Midwest by Victoria Lion Kurt Zuppke.  “This year’s Lions District 5M2 Mid Winter Convention in Mankato had a lumberjack theme.  All participants were requested to wear a buffalo red plaid shirt.  We suspect we will hold the Guinness World record for more buffalo plaids in one gathering.”

Carver County Update by Carver County Commissioner Randy Maluchnik.  “The Carver County Veterans Services Officer provides Carver County veterans free transportation to medical appointments offered through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).”

Timeless Beauty by Susan Eaton Harper, MN Arboretum.  “The Timeless Beauty Orchid Display features six displays and 30 different cultivars, brining a tropical, exotic aura to the Arboretum’s Great Hall.”

A Garage Fire in Victoria by the Sheriff’s Department.  “On February 26th, deputies responded to a fire at 1635 Commercial Avenue where a detached garage was on fire.”
