Lions Officers and Awards

AWARDS.  A Lions Club donates $1,000 to Lions Club International Foundation for each Melvin Jones award bestowed on outstanding members, $1,000 to the MN Lions Diabetes Foundation for each Dream Catcher award., $2,500 to Leader Dogs for the Blind to honor a Gold Member for service, dedication, and commitment to Lionism, and donates to hearing and service dogs through Can Do Canine.  This award honors members who have contributed to the Victoria Lions Club in a significant way and contributed service to the community as a whole.  They are persistent, dedicated, honest, and have a kind spirit.

                 The Victoria Lions held the last meeting of their calendar year on Monday evening, May 21st, with spouses invited to the dinner evening.  Lions also installed a slate of new officers who begin their tenure this fall and then presented prestigious awards to some of the larger membership.  There are now 120 Victoria Lions.

                 OFFICERS.  Kneeling:  Bryan Olson (1st Yr Director), Jack Hines (2nd Yr Director), Joel Hulke (1st Yr Director), Mark Hines (3rd VP), Doug Dyer (Tail Twister), Scott McClelland (Vice President).

                 Standing: Al Orsen (Treasurer), Jeff Williams (Membership Chair), Matt Bergmann (Past President), Jeff Chapman (Service Chairman), Kelley Janes (Lion Tamer), Brent Romenesko (2nd VP), Dave Lura (President). 

                 Missing: Stephanie Meuwissen (2nd Yr Director), Steve Fredrickson (Secretary), Chip Peglow (Communications).

Recent Past President Lion Laura O'Neill (center), was noted for her generous work and honored with applause the evening of May 21st, and is pictured with Lion Cindy Olson (left), and Amy Kamenick, friend of Lion Trygg Wangsness.

SCHMIEGS.  If there would be an award for most family members in the Victoria Lions, it would go to the Schmiegs and be presented personally to Jerry and Gerda (seated).  Jerry is a 1966 charter member of the club.  Son Steve (Kathy) is also a Victoria Lion as are sons in law Jeff (Brenda) Williams, Ray (Lisa) Notermann, and Doug (Susan) Hines.  Grandchildren Jack (Shannon) Hines and Mark (Jess) Hines are also Victoria Lions.
