Lake Minnetonka Regional Park

Love, Grandma Sue

When our daughter Jenny and her kids Addie and Gunnar were here in Minnesota for a few days in May (for my parents' 65th wedding anniversary), we drove to the Lake Minnetonka Regional Park, just north of Hwy 7 and east of County Road 44, and spent a couple hours checking things out.  We barely scratched the surface of this 292-acre park.  We can't wait to return!

Can you spot Addie and Gunnar in the play area?  It's huge and colorful and wonderful, and it appeared that no one else had found it yet this spring.

Even Jenny and I enjoyed climbing and exploring the place.  It seems to be designed for many ages and abilities -- even for grandmas and grandpas.

Allan says it consumes 20,000 square feet.  Better than the play area at the Mall of America!  We can't wait to return.

Part of the giant play area includes diggers that kids can operate manually.

They are small scale backhoes for kids to operate and move dirt from one spot to another.

Around the edges in this wonderful park, there are trails and picnic areas and parking lots for visitors.  There is a fishing pier, a boat launch, and acres and acres of nature's best, located in Minnetrista, which is in the neighborhood, only a few feet from Victoria city limits.  We can't wait to return.

The manmade swimming pond -- 1.75 acres in size -- with sandy bottom and sandy beach is near the play area and features giant umbrellas, filtered and chlorinated water, and roped off areas that indicate depths to 6 feet.

Again, the pool seems designed for many ages and abilities.  We walked in the water and, as would be expected, it was warm along the shallow edges and colder as it came up to our knees.

There are concessions soon to open and nice clean restrooms and benches and tables.  We can't wait to return.
