Morrie and Alice by Sue Orsen/The Victoria Gazette.  “She’s one out of a million,” said Morrie Leuthner of his wife Alice, whom he chased, captured, and married in 1996.  At that time he was 68 and she was 66.  Both Morrie and Alice had lived more than four decades with a first spouse, raised a family, worked hard, and then grieved to watch their beloved mates die.”  Click on Front Page.

Evolution of the Golf Swing by Tom Abts, Deer Run Golf Pro.  “There is much confusion about the golf swing.  For many people, it’s a fun puzzle to be solved.  For many more, it’s a source of confusion and frustration.  At the root of this puzzle, and the resulting frustration and confusion, is that noe one talks about the stps needed to develop a good golf swing.”

Snapshots in Time by Sue Orsen.  “The above group of people are those of us who began the Tour of Ireland together in April 2018.  The picture was taken on April 3rd in front of the cathedral in Downpatrick, near th grave of the famous St. Patrick.  That very evening I was struck by a car in front of our hotel in Belfast and I lived to tell the story in the May 2018 Gazette.”

The Rapidan Dam by Bre McGee and MN River Weekly Update.  “Pictured is the Blue Earth River passing through the Rapidan Dam just outside of Mankato.  It stands 87 feet tall and was constructed from 1980 through 1920,  The electricity produced can generate power for 2,000 to 3,000 residents.”

Boat Inspections by Sarah Bhimani, MCWD.  “You can help protect your favorite lake from aquatic invasive species by following three simple steps:  Clean, Drain, Dry.  Before leaving a lake, boaters should clean all visible plants and other debris from all equipment, drain water, and keep drain plugs out.”

30 Years Ago the Gazette featured Calvin & Marge Robling in “Still Honeymooning.”

20 Years Ago the Gazette featured the huge storm and tornadic winds that howled through Victoria on May 15th and again on May 30th in “The Howling Train.”

Spring to Summer Victoria Style by Mike Wartman, Former Resident of Victoria.  “It was initially evident in our attendance at church and school and most notably they were ending.  To know that mandatory daily Mass attendance at St. Victoria Catholic would soon be limited to the mandatory Sunday only Mass was pure joy.”

A Benevolent Monarchy by Tom Stumpf, Cowboy Correspondent.  “There was a wedding of some note across the pond a few weeks ago.  This author would have glanced at t he headlines with a bit of indifference under normal circumstances.  But Grammy and I were charged with supervising twin grandbabies that day and there was a fair amount of downtime while the ceremony was being rebroadcast.”

Opening of Victoria Flats Rooftop by Brenda Hvambsal, VP of Marketing.  “We had an opening Party for residents and guests on May 4th to celebrate 90% leased and the opening of the rooftop at Victoria Flats in downtown Victoria.  Residents enjoyed the rooftop, the firepit, the tours, and the music.”  Most currently, the Flats have reported 100% leased!

County Parks and Space Planning by Randy Maluchnik, Carver County Commissioner.  “Carver County Parks offers many great recreational programs including Dad and Daughter Night, Extreme Explorers Camp, Family Standing Up Paddle Board, Yappy Hour.  Also, staff and an architect presented a plan that strategically maps the county’s building needs over the next 30 years.”

Paddline Minnehaha Creek by Bill Olson, Victoria, MCWD Manager.  “The late spring this year has given me a serious case of spring fever.  I’ve been enjoying the warmer weather, sunshine, and hints of summer.  One of my favorite parts of summer is paddling Minnehaha Creek.  Did you know that the creek has many canoe and kayak launches along its 22 mile route?”
