Wonderful Walkable Wednesdays by Sue Orsen-The Victoria Gazette.  “Every year at this time, Victoria fills the streets on Wednesday evenings like ants coming out of the woodwork.  The sweet attraction is a casual yet classy combination of classic cars, concerts at the bandstand, five restaurants with outdoor dining, a brewery, an outdoor plaza, an ice cream hop, retail stores, a lovely lake, bike trail, and sweet summertime as well.”  Click on Front Page for more.

Ruby’s Roost by Sue Orsen.  “Bob and Linnea Boyd are the owners of Ruby’s Roost, a bakery on the street level in the Notermann Building.  Their caramel rolls are the best seller, and their Ruby Latte and lavender Vanilla Latte are favorites.”

Winnie Lu by Sue Orsen.  “Patricia Sjulson is the owner of this shop on the street level in the Notermann Building.  It is a lifestyle boutique carrying home goods, gifts, and lots of Minnesota made products.  Best selling items include Allison Marie Design handpainted signs.”

Old National Acquires KleinBank by Mary Lilja, Eden Prairie, MN.  “Old National and KleinBank announced a merger agreement under which Old National will acquire Klein Financial through a 100% stock merger.  This transaction greatly strengthens and complements Old National’s recent expansion.”

Victoria’s Obsession with Autos Indeed!  by Mike Wartman, Former Resident of Victoria.  “I do not recall too many Victoria locations to purchase autos and trucks, but there were plenty of places that worked on them — Leo Hartman, the DX Filling Station, Lenny Koehnen’s Standard Station, the Braunworth compound, Hank Fossum’s Garage.”

From Cold Storage to Green Space and Restored Creek by Bill Olson, Victoria, MCWD Board of Managers.  “325 Blake Road was purchased by the MCWD in 2011 as a key piece of the Minnehaha Creek Greenway.  We have now selected Minneapolis-based Kraus Anderson as the master developer for the project.”

Dogfish by Telly Mamayek, MCWD.  “Our research and monitoring staff caught this bowfin (dogfish) while checking trap nets on Mud Lake earlier this spring to assess bluegill sunfish winter survival as part of our carp management study.”

In the Good Ol’ Summertime by Christie Schlueter, Regular Victoria Visitor.  “These are some taste-of-summer easy recipes.”

Life is Not About Numbers by Tom Abts, Deer Run Golf Pro.  “Quality is a judgment.  Quantity is a fact.  Quality is what matters in terms of friends, employees, team mates, investments, possessions, and values.  Quality is long term.  If you really want it all, choose quality over quanitity.”

The Best of Friends by Tom Stumpf, Cowboy Correspondent.  “One of the generous kindnesses that comes with writing this monthly column is the grieving therapy which I am allowed to openly express from time to time.  A few weeks ago my wife Patti and I suffered the loss of two longtime friends A Time Capsule from Archie Leizinger’s Family by Mary Leizinger, Resident of Victoria.  “We found materials in the wall of the old house in Victoria that included Mona’s class schedule, list of movies she had seen and movie stars, fair ribbons, a shoe, cigarette tins, a child’s blocks, and more.”

Old National Acquires KleinBank by Mary Lilja, Lilja Communications, E.P.  “The merger agreement has been unanimously approved by the Board of Directors of both Old National and Klein.  The transaction is anticipated to close in the 4th quarter of 2018.”

Victoria’s Library Log for July by Jodi Edstrom, Youth Services Librarian.  Some of the programs in July included 1000 Books Before Kindergarten, Brodini the Magician, Makey Makey, Bill the Juggler, Dairy Princess Storytime, Minecraft, Intro to 3D Design and Print.

$2,000 for Victoria Fire Department by Rebeca Virden, CenterPoint Energy.  “CenterPoint recently awarded the City of Victoria a $2,000 grant for G5 dual-band pagers which will help Victoria’s firefighters to better serve their community.”

Lake Itasca by Sue Orsen.  “The mouth of the Mississippi river causes wide reflections not just because of its beautiful beginning but because we know its journey and where it ends.”

Common Carp by Telly Mamayek, MCWD.  “The MCWD has received a state grant to restore $2,488 acres of in-lake habitat in Lake Minnetonka’s headwaters by controlling common carp.”

Carver County Update by Randy Maluchnik, Carver County Commissioner.  “Commissioner Tim Lynch and I recently had the opportunity to attend a White House Briefing and Tour in Washington D.C.”

Remember When by Sue Orsen.  “Only ten years ago the City of Victoria demolished three homes on Quamoclit Street, and the old café and C.H. Carpenter Lumber on Main Street.  Demolitions are in anticipation of downtown redevelopment
