To the Editor:

Just a short note to thank you for the Claire de Lune article.  After the paper came out, church on Saturday evening became a "circus," so many people came by to comment about your article.  I was reduced to just saying thank you over and over again.  I have mailed copies to all family members.

To the Editor:

There appears to be a very high fence, possibly chainlink, being installed on the northeast corner of County Road 18 and Bavaria Road.  I believe that is Arboretum property, where an osprey nesting platform has been located for many years.  Just wondered if you know why they have decided to fence that area.  Thanks.

To the Editor:

Greetings, Sue.  Is there an opportunity to receive some extra copies of the June  issue of the Gazette?

To the Editor:

Recently your newspaper did a story on my grandfather John Scott and he sent us a clipping.  I'm actually the youngest granddaughter Kaylie, and I just wanted to say thank you.  My grandfather is the most incredible human being on the face of the planet.  The story was beautifully written.

My grandpa was a huge part of my childhood.  He would pick me up every single afternoon when I got off the bus from kindergarten and he would take me out to lunch.  We would walk together at the beach, go to movies, watch TV, and just hang out.

My grandpa had a huge shaping in my life and he is the person that I look up to.  I'm currently 21 years old and pursuing a degree in Communications at a college down here in Florida where I live.  The only reason why I haven't given up is because I promised him I would graduate.

My grandpa is my favorite person in the world and I just wanted to say a huge thank you to whoever wrote that story about him.  You have captured the very essence that is John Scott.  Thank you again.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  Thank you for being patient and hanging in there with me for being so tardy in sending this renewal for your great newspaper.  Best wishes.

To the Editor:

As the City of Victoria plans for future growth and needs, it is wisely considering a full service public library branch in its plan for new and/or relocated City Hall and Public Works facilities.  I fully support these efforts.

Public library service across Carver County remains strong, with circulation over one million for the fourth year in a row, due to an attentive eye on the changing demands of its users, the taxpayers.  There is no question that it will continue to provide the resources and services that our residents need to excel in today's world.

Local governments working together for efficiency and effectiveness is what our constituents expect.  The branch libraries in Carver County are a perfect example of the benefits of such collaboration.

In accordance with a Joint Powers Agreement, the cities provide the facilities and utilities while the county provides the management and materials.  Under this model, new libraries were recently built in Norwood Young America and Waconia and, at the end of May 2013, the Watertown library was reopened after a well-deserved remodel.

The county's long-term plan recognizes the need to budget for new branch libraries in the cities of Victoria and Carver, currently set for 2020.  That the City of Victoria is considering an expedited timeline is a challenge to county financial planning, but one that is well worth exploring -- especially if the result is overall cost savings and improved delivery of vital services.

I commend the City of Victoria for its comments to its -- and the county's -- residents, and I support moving ahead with engaging the county in planning and discussion.  We both owe our constituents no less.

         Carver County Commissioner
