January Road Trip to Tioga

We drove to Tioga on Thursday, January 17th, arriving that night in time for supper.  We were there for Addie’s 16th birthday on Monday, January 21, and left Tioga, the next morning, arriving back in Victoria the night of January 22nd.

In other words, we were gone for six days.  We went to Addie and Gunnar’s basketball games with Jenny and Chris and toured new facilities in Tioga and stayed warm and ate well.

Addie and Gunnar get up early on school days.  Gunnar starts Addie’s car so it’s warm for them when they crawl in.  We no longer get to watch the school bus drive onto their farm site to pick up the Norgaard kids who are now teenagers.

We spent part of the first day at Jenny’s coffee shop, where Allan and I helped take down all the Christmas decorations.

As you can see, Jenny sells more than coffee at the Red Moose Coffee Hus.

Jenny has puzzles and games, magazines and books, for both kids and adults to enjoy while they sip their fancy drinks.

Back at Jenny’s house, it’s familiar and fun to see everything in its place.  Jenny is both practical and artistic.  We were there one summer when Allan helped build her long shelf with coat-hooks in their foyer.  Jenny found and painted that very long red bench.

Christopher rented a building in Tioga and hired son Gunnar and friend Cameron to build his septic heaters.  Sales are good.

It’s always hard to say goodbye to Christmas.

Yes, Jenny still has chickens and eggs.

Goliath and Lucy like to be outside with Jenny.

And then they like to step inside with Jenny.

One of Jenny’s many good dishes is her egg bake in the morning.

We spent a little time in downtown Tioga every day.  Goodbye, Goliath.

Chris’ carwash works well!  Allan and I had stopped there before we went to their place in the country.  Sales are good.

We stopped at Chris’ office at Almer’s Construction in downtown Tioga, and Chris showed us the pipeline being painted on the other side of the plastic wall.

Chris was involved in the design and construction of the new community center in Tioga.  It’s near completion.

The community center will include a large play area for kids.

And a large kitchen that will accommodate large crowds and community events.

Allan was interested because the Victoria Lions really need an updated kitchen at the new Lions Park Pavilion in Victoria.

There’s an outdoor skating rink next to Tioga’s community center.  Victoria is lucky to have two indoor rinks.

Chris is also involved in the design and construction of the new terminal at the Tioga Municipal Airport, where he is the chairman of the Tioga Airport Authority.

The floor inside the terminal is pretty interesting.

People arriving or departing the airport will have a nice place to wait and watch the planes.

Windows all around give good views of the runways.

Back home it was time for Jenny to make Addie’s favorite birthday cake — chocolate!

We always find time to play Scrabble or Cathedral and look at Jenny’s scrapbooks.

Then it was time to open birthday presents.  Do you see who’s missing?

There she is.

The magic of photoshop.

Happy Birthday, Sweet Adeline.

Addie and Gunnar always dress up for school on Game Day, when they play basketball that evening at the high school.

When the kids left for school, we left for Victoria.  We had pretty good roads coming and going.  Thank you, Jenny and Chris, and kids, for everything.  Love you.
