Ice Cream Social

Is there another Ice Cream Social in Victoria outside of that held each year at the Lake Auburn Moravian Church?  Is there another event in Victoria that features more delicious hot BBQ pork sandwiches or more varieties of fresh homemade pie?

The Ice Cream Social at the Lake Auburn Moravian Church was held this year on Thursday evening, August 18th.  The temperature registered 85 degrees at 5 p.m. but a cool breeze off the lake, and shade of the treed landscape, made the outdoor seating and live music comfortable and enjoyable.  Thank you, church men and ladies of Lake Auburn, for another beautiful summer evening.

Pastor Brian Dixon and his son Jacob feast among the people and guests.  It was difficult to choose only one piece of pie from among the delicious varieties of dessert that included Rhubarb Meringue Pie and Pecan Pie and Peach Pie and Apple Pie and Pumpkin Pie and also various homemade cookies.  As the for meat of the evening, it is evident that Pastor Brian's plate holds a BBQ pork sandwich while Jacob chose the hotdog.

Kitchen ladies at Lake Auburn remain more or less the same each year at this Ice Cream Social and every year they smile and pose for the camera without too much prodding.  Left to right:  Nora Adam, Sharen Geske, Ruth Stalke, Joan Geske, RaNaye Miller.

Louise Schulz of Waconia (a longtime member of Lake Auburn) and her twin daughters Janet Buemer (left) of Blaine and Janice Hahn of Edina.  "They're my babies," said Louise, who has three older sons -- Carl, James, and Richard.  Louise's husband Earl Schulz is buried at the Lake Auburn Moravian Cemetery.

Ron and Harriet Holtmeier of Victoria don't have a long trek to church, whether it be for Sunday morning services or an Ice Cream Social or Bible Study or Trustee Meeting.  That's the Holtmeier home partially visible in the far right corner of this photo. The playground and outdoor seating are on the church property.  Ron is the standing gentleman, his wife Harriet is seated on the far left.  Also at table is their son Rick and his wife Mary of Mayer and their little grandson.

Mary Moore of Victoria asked Thom Flug of Mound, who is the beloved Music Director at the Lake Auburn Moravian Church, if he's related to some Pflugs she knows.  They're not related.  Thom reports that in the German language, "pflug" means plow while "flug" is fly.  Proceeds from this particular Ice Cream Social went to assist with Thom's medical bills from heart surgery last year.  That's Dawn Ascher-Johnson of Cologne serving food in the background.

Love, Sue
