Highlight of the Volksfest

The only crowd I saw at this year’s Volksfest was under the tent with Conductor Barry Fox and the Minnesota Valley Community Band.

Barry and the Band were featured from 1:00 to 2:30 on Saturday afternoon, August 18th.

As usual, they roused a ready audience to a spirited summer’s sentiment.

Applause and ovations accompanied nearly every piece.

Mr. Fox reminded his audience that he and the band will be performing again in Victoria on Saturday, September 29th, at the Victoria Lions Oktoberfest.

LeRoy Miller of Victoria was one of several people in the audience who has served in the U.S. Military and was recognized by a medley of military music that singled out the various branches.

Jerry and Gerda Schmieg of Victoria recalled the old days when Jerry played in the Drum and Bugle Corps and the Victoria Concert Band.

Tim Gallagher of Chaska was hiding behind a salt and pepper beard but the smile and laughter were familiar.

Tim was president of the Victoria Lions Club in 1994.  That’s his romantic wife Kim at his sunny side.
