The next day, after the tree fell and it was hauled away,  Hartmans returned haul in new black dirt, relay the sod, rubber roller-rake the scene, and re-install the stone wall.  By later afternoon I felt some raindrops but had time to plant several big elephant ear hostas in the new black dirt in the space once occupied by the majestic maple tree.

And now it’s time for summer!

From Stately to Sawdust-Part Two

Our backyard was filled with the loud and sustained sound of a chainsaw working at the base of the tree … and then the noise stopped as the tree began to move.  It landed with a thud and then a bounce that could have been disastrous to the deck.  But it was a success story and all’s well that ends well.
