Final 2018 Classic Car Night

The Stingrays returned to the Victoria stage on Wednesday, evening, September 5th.

That’s Dave Maetzold, center, on bass guitar (he’s a Minnesota Rock and Roll Hall of Famer) and John Zingsheim, far right, playing lead guitar.

Rick Leuthner of Victoria has a printed advertisement display that compares his 1930 AA Ford truck to a team of two horses and a wagon.  “The Ford gets there in one-fourth the time.  The Ford truck combines speed with economy.”

“A Ford and a man will do the work of 4 men, 8 horses, and 4 wagons.”  The comparison shows that price of the truck in 1930 is $675 and the total cost of operation per year (including gas, oil lubrication, depreciation, tire allowance, repairs, interest, insurance, and license) is $270 … whereas the price of 8 horses and 4 wagons is $1,200 and the total cost of operation per year is $161 per head or $1,292.

Rick brought the truck used, a few years ago.  “It came off a farm,” he said.  “I think it used to be bluish in color.  My Grandpa Leuthner said he once had a truck like that and so I was looking for one.”

Did the truck come with the old license plate?  Replied Rick, “I had to find it.  There’s this guy that has collected thousands of license plates and you just need to tell him what kind of vehicle you have and he’ll find the right one for it.”

It appears there are 47,976 miles on the truck and that it goes a maximum of 80 mph.

A 40-year Victoria Firefighter, Rick also drives the 1929 Chevrolet Fire Truck to the Classic Car Show.  It was the City of Victoria’s first gas powered fire truck, built in St. Paul, and actively used in Victoria until 1954 when it was retired and then just used for parades.  It was restored in 1998 with proceeds from Victoria Fire Department fundraisers.

This 1955 Chevrolet 210 Delray is owned by Ron Nelson of Chaska.  The car is named after Delray Beach, Florida.

This 1957 Ford Thunderbird is owned by Randy and Sharon Schneider of Eden Prairie.  See you next year, God willing and the river don’t rise.
