The Scoop

at City Hall

To the Editor:

I have enjoyed reading your newspaper since moving into Victoria in 2008, as it has given me a glimpse into the history of our great town.  We are looking into holding a seminar in the fall, and I’ll keep your paper in mind when we determine our advertising budget.  Have a blessed day.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  Would you please put our ad information in your next issue?  Please use my logo as always.  You really have a great paper and great people in Victoria.  I’ll let you in on a little secret:  I met my husband on a blind date in Charlie’s Bar in Victoria in 1969.  It was Charlie and Joyce Diethelm’s bar, where Tuffy Kaufhold took over later.  Thank you.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  It’s me again.  We have another milestone birthday in our family.  My mom turns 70 on February 3rd.  To honor and celebrate her, please include the enclosed photo and special wishes from our family in the February issue of the Gazette.  Enclosed is a check that should cover the ad cost.  Thank you so much.  We always enjoy reading the Gazette.  You do such a great job.  Blessings.

To the Editor:

As community leaders, we celebrate any opportunity to show the world what is unique and special about our hometown.  And a truly rare honor is about to be bestowed upon us when the Saint John’s Bible comes to Carver County in May.

As you may know, the Saint John’s Bible is an epic project that has taken over ten years and several million dollars.  It began at Saint John’s University in Collegeville, MN.  It was there that Donald Jackson, senior scribe to the Queen of England, and the monks of Saint John’s first shared an impossible dream:  to create the first handwritten, hand-illustrated Bible since Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press in the 1400’s.

That dream has gradually become a reality.  And the first four (of seven) volumes of the Saint John’s Bible will be headed to their new home in Carver County soon.

A devout member of our community has acquired a Heritage Edition copy of the complete Saint John’s Bible and graciously donated it -- to be shared by St. Hubert Catholic Community in Chanhassen and Holy Family Catholic High School in Victoria.

This Heritage Edition (one of fewer than 300 in existence) captures the breathtaking majesty of the original Saint John’s Bible.  It faithfully replicates the hand-lettered original in exacting detail, in a printed format that would leave Gutenberg himself awestruck.

The Saint John’s Bible offers the members of our community a unique opportunity to rediscover the Word of God.  And we would like you to join us when we officially present the Saint John’s Bible to the people of Carver County.

An ecumenical unveiling ceremony will take place on May 7th, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Hubert’s in Chanhassen.  We would be honored if you would join us at this ceremony, to discover how our community will benefit from this extraordinary treasure in the future.

We would also like to invite you to a special preview hosted by Father Eric Hollas of Saint John’s University at the Holy Family Catholic High School on February 17th.  Father Eric, a medieval scholar, has been very involved in the project since he first discussed the idea with Donald Jackson 15 years ago.  Since then he has spoken to audiences around the world on the Saint John’s Bible.

Over 500 years have passed since mankind witnessed a new handwritten Bible.  Don’t pass up this opportunity to be part of this unique unveiling.
