Love in a Dog’s World continued

Jennifer Rutzick of Excelsior loves her dogs, Billy and Kyra, because they’re like kids to her.  Billy, about 6 or 7 years old, is part Beagle and part Mastiff, and he doesn’t like the cold so opted to stay in the car wrapped in a blanket on this below freezing Saturday morning.  “I adopted Billy from my sister,” said Jennifer.  “He was a goat chaser in the country near Kansas City and they wanted him gone.  Billy is very lovable.  He’s such a trooper.  He loves to chase squirrels and shrews and gophers.”

Kyra is a 6-year old 100% Siberian Husky, and Jennifer has had her since she was a puppy.  “Kyra was my son’s dog, and his girlfriend’s, and I was against them buying her but they did anyway,” said Jennifer.  “They broke up and when my son went off to college I got her.  Kyra has a lot of energy and I love to walk so I appreciate that energy.  She is a smart dog, a good companion, and  gives unconditional love.”

Jennifer goes to the Victoria Dog Park every day.  “I love the people, the grounds, the bathrooms,” she said.  “It’s a really good park.  I like that it has woods, tall grass, a variety of different hills, and it overlooks Stieger Lake.  A while back both of my dogs wouldn’t leave that little fenced in area.  They found a hollow tree and squirrels and they would have stayed there all day and all night.  This dog park is so stimulating to them.  I’ve gone to the Minnewashta Park also but my Husky has gotten out of that park.  One time I lost her for five hours.  At least Carver Park is totally fenced and safe.”
