Double Downtown Demolition-Part III

Four hours after demolition began that morning of July 9th, on the City Offices building, the excavator dug into the back of the Village Hall.  By 5 o’clock that evening, this building too was down.

The final corner fell at 5:02 that afternoon.  Yes, I was there to see and photograph the whole thing.  A lot of people in town spent a lot of time in those two buildings since 1950 and 1965, respectively, but maybe nobody more than myself.  I’ve attended Lions functions and parties and their events at the Village Hall since the early 1970s (Allan is a Lion), and then Commercial Club meetings and parties and their events at the Hall (I was a member), Chamber of Commerce meetings and parties and their events at the Hall (I was a member), many Senior Citizens meetings and events and their bazaars at the Hall (as a guest and as the Gazette photographer), and nearly every city council meeting that was ever held there.  I was also a regular visitor to the City Offices building since 1984 when the old Fire Hall was remodeled into City Offices.  I also attended nearly all city council meetings ever held in that building.  Nobody on the planet has attended more hours of Victoria City Council meetings and workshops than I have.

The space is already being used for downtown parking and will soon be paved and painted for that purpose.
