Classic Car Nights in June

Victoria had two Classic Car Nights in June, on Wednesday the 13th and Wednesday, the 27th.  This 1934 Plymouth SR is owned by Rich and Kay Kettwig of Victoria.

That’s Steve Hoyt of Victoria on the far right and his wife Julie on the far left.  The couple in the center are Wayne and Sue Chapman of Victoria.  Both Steve and Wayne have cars displayed on Classic Car Night.

This 2004 Porsche (Modell 911) belongs to Steve Hoyt.  It looks brand new but has 355,000 miles on it.  Steve said he loves his car and he loves to travel all around the United States.  On Classic Car Night, he parks his cool car in the shade of the Victoria Creamery to keep it cool.

It’s fun to see former Victoria Mayor Tom O’Connor and his wife Cathi at Classic Car Nights and at other Victoria events.  Those two little grandchildren, Ryan and Maura, get taller every year and I smile that they recognize me as “the Camera Lady.”

This 1967 Ford Mustang is owned by Mustang Margie of Victoria.

Bob and Linnea Boyd are the owners of Ruby’s Roost, a bakery and coffee shop on the street level in the Notermann Building.  It welcomes visitors on Classic Car Nights.  That’s their little girl Lucia.

Their daughters Adda and Bella are helpers on Classic Car Nights.  The homemade caramel rolls are the best seller.

Patricia Sjulson is the owner of Winnie Lu , a shop also on the street level in the Notermann Building.  Winnie is her black lab and Luna is her tuxedo cat, and that’s how she arrived at the name of her business, after her two “babies.”

Said Patricia, “It is a lifestyle boutique carrying home goods, gifts, and lots of Minnesota made products.  I love buying from local vendors in Minnesota and small businesses across the U.S.”

The parking lot at Victoria Flats includes more than three dozen spaces for public parking.  Check it out when you’re looking for a spot on Classic Car Nights.  There is also the Rose Street parking lot, the grocery store parking lot, the bank’s parking lot, the brewery’s parking lot, the grassy knoll, the public lot next to City Hall, plus on-street parking.

It's an unusual contrasting scene in downtown Victoria for the first time this summer of 2018.  The classic cars are models of yesteryear, while the five-story building in the background is a model of the future.  Classic Car Nights began in Victoria in 2010, according to Jerry Hartman of Hartman Communities, a leader in spearheading and working the popular Classic Car Nights.  Groundbreaking on Victoria Flats began in 2016 and is now completed in 2018.  Its 80 apartment units are already fully leased, according to The Beard Group, developer of the project.  The young trees, which appear to be growing out of the pavement, lend a softening visual to the dichotomy.

Members of the Victoria Fire Department were dressed in their handsome black VFD duds on the June 13th Classic Car Night.  That's (l-r) Lieutenant Trenton Klos, Lieutenant Jon Diethelm, and Captain Dave Shoger.  Dave is also a member of the Victoria Public Works Department.

Hi, Amy and Jason Schmieg of Victoria.  Amy graduated from Chaska High School with our daughter Jenny Orsen.  She is a sister of Mike Lindell, the famous My Pillow guy who, at one time, owned Vic's Bar and Grill in Victoria.

Dave Colehour Jr. of Minnetonka and Dave Colehour Sr. of Victoria displayed an artist's rendering of their 1966 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ.  Chip Foose is artist owner and chief designer of Foose Design as well as the star of reality TV's "Overhaulin."  Said Dave Sr., "He sketched it as we watched and finished it in no time, then signed it for us."

This little guy stood there all night.

Hi, Victoria City Engineer Cara Geheren and Former Victoria Community Development Director Ben Landhauser.

Randy's Way is named after the late Randy Miller who was instrumental in bringing Classic Car Nights to Victoria.

This Model A Coupe is a 1930 Ford owned by Jeff and Jean Worth of "Antiques Worthwhile" in Victoria.

Hi, Victoria Lion Doug Dyer and Minnesota Twins fan.

We sat in the shade for a while with Mary Moore and Jeff Hartman.

Kids don’t care whether they sit in the grass or on the hard sidewalk.

I recognize a couple Schmieg girls and Eddy Worm.

The 1936 Roadster is “Keith and Marsha’s Street Rod.”

Hi, Bob and Barb Williams of Chaska and Susie Schrempp of Victoria.

Eric Huibregtse of Victoria and some of his family gathered on the evening of June 27th in downtown Victoria.  L-r:  Eric with Charlotte (granddaughter), Yvette (wife), Amy Goedert (friend and grandparent), Elliot (grandson and birthday boy), John Goedert (friend and grandparent), Abbie Huibregtse (daughter in law), and Ryan (son).

Said Eric, "It was our grandson's 4th birthday and what a way to spend it -- Classic Car Night and ice cream at The Social."

Concerts at the Charlson Thun Community Bandstand are also held on Wednesday evenings.

The Bayfront Plaza provides comfortable seating and good listening and viewing.
