Christmas with Parents and Friends

We drove home on Saturday, December 24th, Christmas Eve Day, to see Mom and Dad at their apartment in Boulder Estates in Marshall and bring presents and visit a while.

We love to give Mom and Dad gifts of wine and Belgian chocolates and polka DVD’s they might like to see again.

Three of my brothers joined us for the afternoon — (l-r) Matt, Bernie, Paul — and also Margene, Bernie’s wife, who brought a crockpot of delicious homemade squash soup.  Bernie emailed me the recipe and I made it the next day to accompany my meal at home in Victoria with my kids and grandkids.

We always gather for a special holiday meal with our friends Rosalie and Lloya Paulie of Chanhassen (left) and John and Jan Flora of Fridley.  This year we enjoyed dinner together on Sunday, December 10th, at Jake’s in Plymouth.  For many years we spent New Year’s Eve at the Officer’s Club at Fort Snelling, dining and dancing the night away.  It closed a few years ago and has been shuttered ever since.

Jim and Nan Emmer treated us to an intimate, delicious, and memorable holiday gathering at their home in Deer Run on December 20th.  Left to right from yours truly, Mary Doshan, Nan, Mary Sue Plocher, Allan, Jim, Mike Doshan, and Fred Plocher,

We were happy that Chuck Freiberg (the Up North Cabin Guy) stopped in to see us over the holidays.
