The Victoria

GAZETTE

To the Editor:

I wanted to let you know about my intent to run for one of the open positions on the Victoria City Council.  For the past three years I have been serving on the Victoria Business Development Committee, as a member and recently as chair. I have been involved in projects such as the Hwy 5 Marketing Plan, Discover Victoria Days, and the Community HOA Meetings.

My professional experience is varied.  I have 22 years working for Target Corporation where my positions have focused on development of key strategies, solving problems with efficient and fiscally responsible solutions, and building strong team, peer, and client relationships. I am the Executive Director for an organization I co-founded called The Business Women's Circle as well as a coach and consultant for small business owners.

I would like to expand my role in the growth and development of Victoria that I've seen in the four years I've lived here.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  Thanks for including me on your mailing list.  I've enjoyed reading these last several issues of the paper, just like I used to do at Mom's house.  Looking forward to the next Gazette.

To the Editor:

"Think Victoria" brought a thought to me regarding the cyclists' "Tour De Victoria."  If being planned again for this summer, perhaps this year's tag could be "Tour De Victoria De Tour."

To the Editor:

On September 29th we're going to have a public Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting with a 5K/3K Walk.  Have you seen our new campus?  We're getting so excited to move.  Southwest Christian High School will be relocating around mid August to 1981 Bavaria Road.  I'll be sure to include you on the details for the Grand Opening.  We'd love for you to join us.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  Someone asked me how I get to work now with the detours.  I live in Chanhassen and work at Waterbrooke Fellowship in Victoria.  My reply:  the scenic way.  Enjoy the laugh.

To the Editor:

I understand Mary Thun is not running for Victoria's mayoral re-election.  I want to thank her for ten years of wonderful public service.  I also salute Mayor Thun for doing a tough and time consuming job that has a great impact on us all, but doesn't get much pay or attention.

After serving one four-year term on the council and three two-year terms as our mayor, representing Victoria countless times, Mayor Thun's class act has become the face of Victoria.

She built towards the goal of Victoria's recent mayors, Mary Meuwissen and Jerry Bohn, to take Victoria from a village to a city with an identity.  The mayor and council worked with Victoria's groups and committees through structural improvements and events to bring people to see all that Victoria has to offer.  And today, the city can be proud to have a major detour cut through back streets because downtown looks great even from its backside.

Mayor Thun was a major factor in this positive synergy that has developed in our city, and we will definitely miss her at the helm.  But now it's time for her to be able to enjoy dinner at one of the many Victoria open-air eateries, with the citizenry only approaching her with locally grown wine and not local whining.
