If I Ruled World of Golf by Tom Abts, Deer Run Golf Pro.  “Golf was originally a game played by Scottish shepherds to pass the time while tending to their flock.  They basically said, I can hit this rock with a stick to that spot in fewer swings than you can.”

Waiting for the Tulips by Tom Stumpf, Cowboy Correspondent.  “I remember putzing around outside with my father one March day many moons ago and he stopped and said, ‘Listen, do you hear that?’ It was the sound of water running down the ditch near our hobby farm.”

Ready for Spring by Bill Olson, MCWD Board of Managers.  “After the long cold winter, I, for one, am ready for spring to take hold in our beautiful watershed.  The birds singing, buds swelling on tree branches, and refreshing rains that wash away the salt and grit from the landscape will be welcomesigns of a new season.”

KleinBank President by Jamie Golden, KleinBank Communications.  “Matt Klein, originally from Victoria, was appointed President of KleinBank.  He is the fourth generation of his family to work for KleinBank.  He and his wife and children live in Eden Prairie.

Marvin Storms, 79,  died Monday, March 5th, 2018..

Fr. Frederick Schneider, 94, died Saturday.

Julianne Wartman, 84, died Thursday, March 22nd.

More Fish to Fry by Sue Orsen, The Victoria Gazette.  “People who come to the Fish Fry see Lions serving up the food and gathering empty plates when the meal is finished.  But much activity occurs in preparation for this annual event during Lent.”  Click on Front Page.

Everybody Loves a Fish Fry by Sue Orsen.  “And that includes Former Mayor Tom O’Connor, his wife Cathi, daughter Meghan, and grandchildren Natalie, Maura, and Ryan.  Also Lion Bryan and Jodi Olson, Marlys and Marvin Timm of Loretto and granddaughter Jaymie Kaufhold, Lion Jeff and Krista Chapman, Lion Leroy Worm.”

The St. Paul Cathedral by Sue Orsen.  “It is good to be sur rounded sometimes by the marvel and majesty that can be envisioned by the minds and crafted at the hands of mankind and then suffused by God.”

Earth Day Photo Contest by Telly Mamayek, MCWD.  “There is tremendous beauty on and around the 129 lakes, 8 major streams, and thousands of wetlands in the Watershed.”

The Sheldon Theater by Sue Orsen.  “We attended a Rhonda Vincent concert in Red Wing, only a 90 minute drdive from Victoria.  It was an outstanding concert in this unique Mississippi rivertown.”

Twin Cities Auto Show by Author.  “We’re not in the market for a new vehicle but we do find it interesting to look at styles, colors, monitors, chrome, cushy seats, and new digital things.  I remember when cars basically had basic names like Ford, Dodge, Chevrolet, Buick, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac.”

Victoria Lions Pavilion:  An Update by Lion Al Orsen.  March was also a busy month inside the Lions Pavilion which is under construction at Lions Park and looking for a spring or early summer completion.  In March, after the dirt floor was graded, foam insulation, a heat pipe system, and concrete floor was installed.

Carver County Update by County Commissioner Randy Maluchnik.  “Carver County ranks first in health outcomes and factors in Minnesota for the sixth consecutive year.  The county has scored consistently well on health behavior measures.  The county is ranked first out of all Minnesota counties on social and economic factors.”

Celebrating Spring with Springtime Dishes by Christie Schlueter, Regular Victoria Visitor.  “The calendar says spring is here so why not liven up your meals with some of these springtime dishes!  Use the best quality meat and other ingredients you can find.  It makes a huge difference in the taste.  Remember fresh is best.”

At Victoria Elementary School by Jeremy Engebretson  VES.  “All students at VES participated in the Jump Rope for Heart event.  And students have the option to raise money for pledges to be donated to the American Heart Association.”
