In this Centennial Year:  A Public Library for Victoria by Sue Orsen/The Victoria Gazette“It’s not the first library in Victoria, but it is the first public library in Victoria.  It is one of six branch libraries in the Carver County Library System.”  Click on Front Page for the story.

At the 2015 Minneapolis Auto Show by Sue Orsen.  “We ran into Joan and Ray Jendro of Victoria and learned that their old car is about the same age as my old car, but things work pretty wel so there’s not a rush to [car] judgment.”

Memorable Tea Party for Pastor Maureen Bonner by Sue Orsen.  “Each of the tables at Waterbrooke Fellowship in Victoria was decorated to the nine’s by a different church lady.  Décor included fancy china and teacups, dainty silverware, cotton floral napkins, and fresh bouquets of flowers.”

Carver County the Healthiest by Carver County Commissioner Randy Maluchnik.  “Carver County ranks first in health outcomes among all Minnesota counties for the third consecutive year.”

Hannah Dudak Receives Girl Scout Gold Award by Shirley Dudak, Victoria, MN.  “This award represents the highest achievement in Girl Scouting.  Her perfect related to ‘Connecting the Generations’ at Excelsior United Methodist Church.”

2015 Consolation Champs in the State of Hockey by Chad McGraw, Victoria, MN.  “The girls finished their season with a 27-13-5 overall record with 8 of their losses coming against teams ranked #1 or #2 in the state of hockey.”

Grants Available for Water Friendly Landscapes by Telly Mamayek, MCWD.  “The MCWD Cost Share grant program can contribute up to 75% of the cost of installing rain gardens, shoreline or streambank plantings, permeable pavement driveways, or other water friendly landscaping.”

Mothers and Others Tea by Deb Kind, Mount Olivet West Campus.  “Eighty mothers, daughters, granddaughters, sisters, and friends enjoyed this fun and fancy tea with soup, savories, and sweets served on real china.”

30 Years Ago the Gazette featured  Dr. Leon and Vera Snyder of Victoria in “Dr. Snyder’s Spring.”

20 Years Ago the Gazette featured Archie Leizinger, 67, of Victoria in “The Hello Man.”

10 Years Ago the Gazette featured nothing on the front page and had no title and no text, only a foolish looking prancing character.  The paper was published on April Fools Day.

It’s a Peach by Chuck Freiberg, Up North Cabin Guy.  “The ground was covered with a perfect white blanket of snow, our lake was frozen, and the downed tree trunks looked like big puffed marshmallows.”

Picking the Mayor’s Mind by Sue Orsen.  Replied Mayor Tom O’Connor, “Recent data requests seek telephone records and data on our personal email accounts going back to 2011.”

My Dad’s 90th by Sue Orsen.  “Around 60 of his 7 kids, 14 grandkids, and more than 30 great grandchildren and spouses were able to be at the ballroom in Ghent for the occasion.  I believe I counted 17 who could not attend.”

Collecting Tax Dollars in  Old Victoria by Mike Wartman, Former Resident of Victoria.  “April 15th is just a few days away and remains significant for two reasons.  The long anticipated 60th anniversary of my birth is sure to bring countless gifts, accolades, and warm remembrances celebrating my presence on the planet.”

The Millennials by Tom Abts, Deer Run Golf Pro.  “The title of this article sounds like a cheesy TV miniseries.  But the millennials are the talk of the golf world.”

Yes, Sister!  by Tom Stumpf, Cowboy Correspondent.  “My gal and I went to the Plymouth Playhouse last week to take in a performance entitled ‘Late Night Catechism.’  Your sides will hurt by night’s end but it is worth it.”

City of Victoria Living Within means While Investing for the Future by Councilmember Tom Strigel.  “Government Finance is not always as clear cut as household finance.  To truly understand its inner workings requires learning the definition of a wide array of unfamiliar terms.”

Bright and Zingy Recipes for Spring by Christie Schlueter, Regular Victoria Visitor.  “Lemons remind me of spring, from the bright yellow to the burst of flavor in every dish that includes lemon.  Here are some favorite lemon recipes.”

Let’s Move Our Primary Date by Senator Julianne Ortman.  “Chances are, you are one of the approximately 2.7 million Minnesotans who did not make it to the polling place for the primary election last August.”

Allan Sauter, 69, died February 4th, 2015.
